Anyone else wondering the same thing??

So I read a lot of women on TB and elsewhere, that they have not gained weight and are 15+ weeks...I on the other hand have gained 6.5 lbs already. I don't feel I eat a TON. I weighed 119-120 pre-pregnancy. I track my food on myfitnesspal, work out and am training for a 1/2 marathon. Just curious if anyone else secretly wishes the pounds were not packing on so quickly. (And I know, I know....EVERY pregnancy and woman is different. Thought I'd say that before 132 other posters say it, too lol! Oh and I know it's healthy to gain 5-6 lbs first tri.) I guess I"m just curious if I'm the only one thinking/feeling this way?

And how much does the bloat and constipation add to the weight?? Because I DEFINITELY have enough of that!

  • I don't own a scale so I am not sure if I have gained yet with this pregnancy but with DS I struggled. It was scary. At 18 weeks I had not gained a single pound. So I am your exact opposite and wish that I would gain just one pound so I could feel like I was doing my job! (And don't worry, it is on my list of things to mention to the OB next week IF I have a hard time gaining this time around.)

  • I'm right there with you! Definite weight gain and worried about how to control it for the rest of the pregnancy without torturing myself. But baby is looking good and that's the most important thing! I hope breast feeding helps!

  • I gained almost 10 pounds in first trimester with DS. I have gained zero with this pregnancy.

I think your body is going to gain what it needs to gain. Unless your doctor is worried then try to just relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

  • I've gained 5 pounds.. And I'm 9w2d
    I feel fat at 144 :/ lol

I've read in some other threads that thin women tend to gain more in the first trimester than women who had a little extra weight pre-pregnancy.  I'm not overweight by any means, but I'm at the high end of 'normal' and I gained a yucky 15 pounds over the past year, so I'm at the highest weight I've ever been.  I haven't gained a single pound so far in this pregnancy, and I think that is one reason why.

I have gained 15 lbs since being at my "wedding skinniest" last summer- I have only gained 2 lbs so far with this pregnancy and I am not being very careful about what I eat. I'm hoping to get a surge of energy soon to get back on the workout train. I totally agree that I possibly haven't gained much because my body thinks I already have a little more on board than normal.

  • I'm 11w2d.  I started at 125 and have gained 3 pounds so far.  I workout 5 days a week like I used to (but less intense) but know I have been eating more and have increased the carbs.  I am comfortable with where I am at right now but know that I would like to watch this over the next few weeks. I wouldnt worry too much though, if you're aware, you are more likely to make sure it does not get out of control in the future.

  • I'm in the same boat, and like you I was about 120 pre-pregnancy and still remain very active!

  • At 25 weeks I had only gained 12lbs but in the next nine weeks I gained 22 more!  Some people gain steadily throughout and some gain nothing and then gain all of a sudden.  I wouldn't be too worried about it since you seem to be someone that is eating healthy and exercising.  Unfortunately you are going to gain what you are going to gain, in my opinion.

  • I don't know about other women, but I'm pretty sure I haven't gained partly because I am heavier to begin with. I started eating healthier when I got pregnant and I'm sure that plays a big role in it.

  • I guess it depends on your height, but you sound kind of slim unless you are short. It could be that you're on the lower side of a normal BMI or possibly underweight, in which case it's acceptable or even recommended to gain more than the usual amount. Also it could be bloat. But do monitor the situation because you don't want to get out of hand and gain 50 lbs, probably (though for some people even that is ok and lost quickly!)

Same here.  Gained in 1st tri with DD but none yet with this pregnancy (I think because I have a little leftover from my last pregnancy).

  • It's been interesting reading everyone's comments. Please understand that I am NOT worried about what I've gained so far but more curious how some women don't gain any for awhile! I'm 5' 5.5" and know I probably need to gain 25 to 30 lbs. I'm just glad to hear other women are going through the same things and glad to hear each persons experiences! :

  • I haven't gained but lost 7 lbs. BUT... I was 14 lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight with DS about 2 years ago and I was put on bed rest and I think all the worrying and lack of movement is contributing.  My sister just had a baby in December and she gained 20 lbs her whole pregnancy.  I hated when she gloated about losing weight and barely gaining because she was overweight to begin with.  I gained right away with DS and ended up gaining 45.  So to me this time around I am up 8 in first trimester.

  • I'm right around your pre-preg weight and this time I've lost 10lbs, but I've been seriously sick this time. With my daughter I gained a LOT of weight, we're talking almost 70lbs. It was really scary, but I started around 110 and my doctor wasn't TOO concerned but did test me for GD early since I was packing on the pounds. I honestly have no answers as to why I gained as much weight as I did, I was working out, eating healthy but my body just packed the pounds on. Good news was they fell right off after having my gigantic baby.

Interesting, since I'm rail thin and I am the one who posted earlier about not gaining a single lb with DS until ~20 weeks (after OB put me on Ensure).  Not saying its not true for others but definitely not in my case.

  • I am so glad you brought this up.   At first I lost a couple pounds, but now I'm already 6lbs over my starting weight (108 lbs).

Because I am already slim, people make me feel like like an anorexic if I talk about gaining any weight, but if 6lbs is already a 1/3 of what I am supposed to gain throughout the entire pregnancy then I feel like I SHOULD keep an eye on it.

  • With my first, I started at 116, gained 30, dropped to 110 while BFing.

With this one, I started at 116 and have gained about 3 so far. I track my weight in a pregnancy app called pregnancy companion. So far, I'm still within my ideal weight gain range, though I feel like I'm eating enough to put me over.

Not snarking just confused...6x3 is 18lbs...less than the 2035 "normal" or 2540 lb "underweight" weight gain recommendations. Is 18lbs all you're planning on gaining...am I missing a piece like you being 4'8" or something?
Ps I get the anorexic thing...anytime I mention gaining weight or feeling bloated all my inlaws dismiss it immediately. So annoying. I DO have an eating disordered history but none of them know about it. And I legitimately cannot fit into most of my jeans.
  • At my midwife appt, I was told to gain 10 15 lbs!!! That's what I gained over the holidays : seriously though I am at 195 and have gained depending on bloat load about 2 fluctuating lbs. Doing early GD test tomorrow so will see how it goes
  • I'm a FTM. I was heavier than I wanted to be pre-pregnancy and was worried I would gain a ton of weight. I haven't gained anything yet and i'll be 12w on Thursday. That being said, now I'm worried that I won't gain enough over the next 2 trimesters. I don't think weight gain is ever not an issue with women. I think we all wonder and all try to do our best and be healthy but its a lot harder to control now with all the variables. Figuring your own body out is now a massive puzzle. I'm usually pretty in tune with my body but the things it's doing lately have me totally confused! As long as you try to stay healthy and baby is healthy, try not to worry. Your body will do what it needs to to keep the kiddo healthy and safe.

This is me too. Up 20 + lbs since my wedding skinniest almost 2 yrs ago.  At this point just this week I think I started gaining.  From my count its only 2 lbs but my belly would say I've gained 10 or more.  I'm not worried about weight gain either way.  At the start of this week was the first time I've experienced the insane pregnancy hunger.  I've given in to it.  If I'm eating healthy, at least I can be justified to eat a little more healthy food.  I don't want to starve myself.
