Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Commemorating loss??

I've read the many ways people commemorate their loss(es)...naming the baby, planting a tree/bush...I'm not feeling those. I thought of buying a house plant, just can't think of anything else.

Did any of you do anything to commemorate your loss? This was our first pregnancy, and after a year of trying for this one, I know I will never forget, but want something tangible to remember and commemorate the loss by.

TIA and hope everyone is having a great Sunday!

Re: Commemorating loss??

  • This is our first as well. My parents bought us a heart and Journey plaque. I was thinking of having the church flowers dedicated on our due date. Other than that I don't know. I have been trying to think of something else to do.

  • I'm sorry for your loss.

My husband bought me a Pandora charm bracelet and a charm with the baby's birthstone to memorialize our loss.  We've since added a few more charms, mostly for happy things.  It helps me to know that our loss is part of the bigger picture of our lives together, and to see that charm next to other happy charms  puts everything in perspective for me.

There are several companies who do charms, necklaces, lockets, etc (you can search on Etsy).

I also got a pandora charm to remember our angle baby. It's a pair of wings with a little pearl.

Thank you for this. I had not thought of doing anything but I actually found a necklass that I might get. Simple and meaningful. I might get it.

  • I like the idea of a small piece of jewelry.  I'm not a big jewelry person myself; all I usually wear is my wedding ring!  But I'll think about that one.  My husband does want to plant something -- perhaps a rosebush -- but we'll see.  I do want to do something, though, some kind of act of acknowledgment and respect.
  • We called our baby gummy bear I have been thinking of having a picture on my wall of a gummy bear no one will know the meaning except us.

that's what we called ours too haha!! :)
  • I've seen a lot people get necklaces with little feet.  Some people have scrapbooked pages, some have done commemorative boxes, etc.  There was a really cool thread on TTCAL that had some super neat ideas ladies had done to commemorate their losses.  I think it was close to a month back.  You might see if you can find it.

  • My husband and I cut our wedding cake to The White T's "1234" which happened to be the song playing when I walked into the OR for my d and c. I plan on doing something with the lyrics. Ill never be able to hear the song without thinking of my little nugget.

  • We had a nickname for our baby (Bootsie) so we named a star for our baby. I can't wait to get the certificate in the mail and frame it. You can read on my blog about why we chose to do that. Like you, I wasn't feeling the planting a tree or anything...

  • I love the idea of a tree/bush but I don't have a green thumb. If the plant died (like most of mine do) I would be devestated.

I'm less than a week post ectopic surgery/D&C and I've been looking at jewelry. I've found a couple of beautiful necklaces that I like.

  • I got a small tattoo of an angel baby to memorialize my first loss. Now that I've gone through my second, I'm having 2 little hearts added to the tattoo, one for each baby.
  • I've also found some amazing jewelry on etsy
