I found this article (try not to laugh at me for the source) and thought it was kind of cool. As many of us know, most doctors won't guess as to the gender of the baby until the second u/s (we just happened to get lucky at 13 weeks). Apparently, there is an accurate way to determine gender without even looking at the genital area- the placenta. To quote the article:
"Researchers did a trans-vaginal ultrasound at 6 weeks on more than 5,300 women and hypothesized gender due to one marker. Then a transabdominal ultrasound at 18-20 weeks, and their method of gender determination was right 98-99 percent of the time!
...The location of the placenta (was the factor they used) -- 97.2 percent of boys had their placenta on the right side of the uterus at that 6 week ultrasound, and 97.5 percent of girls had theirs on the left."
Anyone heard of this? I would love to take the u/s I had done around 5-6 weeks back to see if this was accurate. Thoughts/opinions?
This link just references the study... I haven't looked that up yet.

Ahh gotcha.... that I didn't hear. Would make sense then. The only reason I had one was because I had a history of long cycles and had no idea when the heck I could have conceived ( I had stopped charting months before). Glad I didn't post this on first tri-- they would all be running to get a u/s done ASAP! ;-)

Why am I having total D?j? vu with this post? It seems like this EXACT post was posted a few days ago (possibly on another board?). I am way too lazy to go back and look, though.
ETA: Found it! I knew I wasn't going crazy. https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/72214254/ShowThread.aspx
Carry on...
I read that It is only valid for a 6 week ultrasound, and you can't tell by the u/s photo alone without knowing the method of u/s used. I can't remember which way it goes, but an image from either the vaginal u/s or the belly u/s is backwards [mirrored], while the other is regular.
I'd be interested in seeing if it worked for moms out there.

Thats pretty cool if it's ture.
I don't think I would want to do it though. I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut or my pocket book closed if I thought I knew the gender. Then what happend if it was a whole lotta hogwash...
::runs back to look at my 7 week ultrasound::
Hmmmm looks like mine was on the right and I had a boy!
ETA: although, how can you really tell? Mine was taken with the vag cam so I have no idea of the angle.

That is interesting.
And I hate to be "that girl", but GENDER is not determined by an ultrasound. SEX is. As they say, gender is between the ears, sex is between the legs.
