You are welcome.
I think I am somewhat useful to Parenting at times.
Okay. I got it working. I found the original game. The problem is that it isn't compatible with 64-bit operating systems and will error out. The fix? Run a DOS emulator called DOSBox. What DOSBox will do is run the application for you inside of it. It is really simple. You just mount a virtual volume. So.. let me walk you through this...
1 .Download the game here at this link:
https://www.dosgamesarchive.com/file/hugo/
2. Extract it anywhere on your computer. I put it on my C: in a folder called Hugo. So.. It is in C:hugo. This is important later on.
3. Next, we will need to grab the DOSBox x86 emulator for Windows found here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/dosbox/files/dosbox/0.74/DOSBox0.74-win32-installer.exe/download
4. Run the DOSBox download and accept the default installation location. It will also place an icon on your desktop.
5. Double click "DOSBox 0.74" It will launch two command prompts. The one that has the "Welcome to DOSBox" prompt and a flashing cursor is the one you want.
6. We need to mount the folder you extracted the game to as a virtual drive. Type the following: mount H C:Hugo
Obviously you will substitute the C:Hugo for wherever you extracted the game files to. And I picked H as the drive letter because.. H is for Huge.
7. Set your location in DOSBox to the H drive now by simply typing: H:
8. The cursor flashing should now read "H:>" That lets us know we are looking in our H drive, which we mounted as the game directory. (see screenshot in #9)
9. Type the following command to launch the Hugo's House of Horrors executable: HHH.exe
10. Done! The game should have launched and you are now ready to enter Hugo's House of Horrors!
Enjoy.
If you need any help or run into any problems just ask and I will be happy to help.
Also, I tested the Save Game/Load Game feature- it works. Just hit F1 like the good old days and save/load your games there. Woohoo. I will be playing again too I think.
EDIT: Here are the links for the next games in the series too.
Hugo 2: Whodunit? https://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/hugo-2-whodunit/
Hugo 3: Jungle of Doom https://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/hugo-3-jungle-of-doom/
Nitemare-3D (many people don't know this is part of the series due to the dropping of Hugo from the name- you actually play Hugo in a Wolfenstein clone in a 3D shooter setting) https://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/nitemare-3d/
Re: **KLONDIKEBAR** HUGO
One more thank you with cookies.
I love this game. I type "Gofuck yourself" and it replies "Same to you, loser."
LMAO. I remember doing that also and having a ball with it. Teehee.
I remember playing when I was younger that I got stuck at the damn cavern lake area with the old man and the boat. Oh and the stupid dinner party. And the dog.
I love games like this. Have you ever played Goldrush? It is a DOS game very similar to this but it is more Oregon Trail themed. I remember typing "pan for gold" so many times.

I remember that game. I really want to play Lesuire Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards next.
