WWYD

Made this huge so that you could actually see it.  I took the pic from my craptastic cell.  I can't tell if this is just our brand of normal or what...  His body has looked like this in the past, but now that it's on his face it's got me worried.  His rash has migrated from body (which is now fantastic) to face, and I can't tell if I should just go in to see the pedi, or if I should give it a wait period.  It's been getting progressively worse over the past 3 days, and I'm uncomfortable putting his hydrocortisone on his face.  I can also email the doc (with pics).  So...  WWYD -- wait it out, get in to see the doc ASAP or email?

Please excuse the oatmeal on his face...  eating is the only thing that makes him sit still.  He otherwise seems normal -- no temp, typical behaviors.

Re: WWYD

  • Poor baby!!!

I would email the doc this morning, telling them that the situation has been getting progressively worse over the last few days.  Let them know you're happy to come in if they think it's needed, but you want them to see what you're dealing with.  I just think you might get some answers quicker via email and a call back, and possibly not waste time on a visit if they can give you some other remedy to try first.

Side note:  That's awesome that your docs will look at email pics, ours won't do that!

  • Go to doc ASAP! Something is going on. It's getting worse even if it's gradual. Who knows what's going to happen in 3 days from now.
  • I have had really good experiences with emailing photos to our ped. She asked me to mark things when Jake had a weird rash on his back and update her the next day. I marked it (washable marker), and sent pictures again the next morning. That might be an option if your ped has office hours tomorrow. If there is no swelling and it isn't super itchy, you should be ok with emailing instead of going in for an appt.

ETA: Did you try giving him Benadryl? Our ped had me give Jake 1/2 tsp of Children's Benadryl every 6 hours. Might want to ask when you email.

  • I have no experience either, but you sound worried, and that's reason enough for me to say call his Dr. Good luck and keep us posted

Ironically, all of the allergy medications make his skin conditions worse...  It's so incredibly frustrating.

I think we'll end up sending emails today and making an appointment for tomorrow.  Oy!  This is going on way too long.

  • I would go in. Kindof looks like 5th disease to me. I had it as a kid and it looked like that. Bendrayl didn't work on it either.

He already had fifths at the end of last year... not the same thing.

ETA:  Even when it was fifths, we didn't go in.  There's really no point.  The doc can't do anything in terms of treatment.  Actually, our doc didn't want us to come in for fear of spreading.  Same with HFM.  BUT, we do have the option to email with photos, so I'm sure that's a factor.

  • It's eczema.  Effing A this sh!t sucks!!

Is it not ridiculous that my kid who was born perfectly healthy has more day-to-day issues than my birth defect baby?  Ugh...

Ugh - didn't someone else just post about eczema on LO's face last night? I can't remember who it was now.

I hope they find something that works to clear it up - it looks painful.
