Pregnant after a Loss

Postmature egg ?

I read Desmo35's post and I believe my issue with my m/c last time was due to a post mature egg since I ovulated really late the cycle after I stopped BFing. From what I gathered, I must have Oed the week I would normally get AF on a typical cycle, but sperm may have met an old egg. I'm concerned that if I keep Oing late, this is going to continue to be an issue for me. Do I make sense? Any insight on this post mature egg issue? Sorry if I sound like a rookie. I'm just trying to put pieces together and attempt to get a handle on my fertility. TIA

Re: Postmature egg ?

  • Are you charting BBT? If you continually (like, after 4+ cycles of charting BBT) see short luteal phases, then add in B6 w/ your prenatal vitamins - it will probably help lengthen your LP.

Thank you! Maybe I will do that anyway. Vitamins can't hurt???!!! Can they?

  • I'm sorry for your loss, and can understanding wanting answers so badly.

From what my RE has told me, a post mature egg doesn't have to do with how late you ovulate (everybody's cycles are different), but with the development or size of the egg/follicle when you ovulate.  As in, your body waits to long to release your egg.  An egg might be ready at CD10 for some people and CD20 or later for others, but that doesn't mean the egg is post mature, unless it isn't released when it's ready.

At least this is how I remember my RE explaining it to me.

Also, I think breastfeeding can affect cycle regularity as well, so you may have just had a wonky cycle.

    PAIF/SAIF, PGAL/PAL welcome.

    2011: IUI + Clomid = CP#1
2012: 3 more IUIs + Clomid = 3 more CPs. One on-our-own pg, also CP
    2013: BTB IUI + Lupron/Follistim/Prometrium/PIO = CP #6
IF testing, RPL testing, Autoimmune testing = all normal

  • I read about this ina book I have called Coming to Term. It's about loss and it has some interesting info in it. What Red says sounds like what I read in the book. It's not necessarily when you O in your cycle, it's that your egg is too mature (sits too longs) by the time your follicle releases it. I also read another book called the Impatient Women's Guide to Getting pregnant that talks about studies of different supplements to help this and other issues. I think that book said that Coenzyme Q10 helped improve egg quality. Both books were interesting in different ways. GL. I had the same want for answers, but sometimes there's just no explanation other than sh*tty luck.
