Exposing LO to Spanish

DH & I are English speaking only. I'd like to expose LO to Spanish as she is learning to talk to encourage her to learn both. Aside from getting a Spanish speaking nanny any ideas, classes, DVD's, etc?

Re: Exposing LO to Spanish

  • We are doing the same thing (although I am a Spanish speaker, so that helps!).  There are a lot of popular English books that are available in Spanish (Buenas Noches Luna comes to mind) and there are some that even have the English and Spanish side by side on the same page.  If you don't think you can read comfortably to her in Spanish, we have a doll named Abuelito Pancho that sings Spanish nursery rhymes.  I think at this point, it's just about exposing her ear to the different sounds of the language.  Babies instinctively know the difference!

  • My dad speaks spanish but never taught me and sisters much until we had kids. He talks to my nieces in spanish and reads them books in spanish. And they understand. But I live in a different state, so I have started reading my kids a few books in spanish. And Ive always used some easy words with them since they were born. If I ask my oldest if he wants water, I ask him in spanish or when I tell him to eat, I tell him in spanish. Even learning some simple words, can help your little one learn easier when she is older.
