C-sections

This made me mad!

I was just doing some VBAC vs RCS research, not that I'm getting pregnant any time soon - just doing some homework - when I came across this article that was comparing risks and benefits of both. (Obviously what you do when you are making your decision)

So I came across the benefits of a VBAC section and I read this listed as one of the pros:

Benefits of VBAC:
birth the way God created our bodies to function

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???!!!  This made me feel like crap for needing a c/s!!!!

Probably for one of those "we know better than you, holier than thou" sites.

So are they saying I shouldn't have had a c/s and had my son's heart rate continue to drop and possibly die? Are they saying thats what God wanted because my body didn't function to have my LO vaginally?

I know, right??  I just don't get how that comment is even close to being accurate.

Actually there are some people who believe that. Obviously I am not one of them.

  • Ugh, I hate garbage like that. There is so much of that kind of crappy content out there too which does nothing to help make women feel prepared to make a choice between VBAC and RCS.

  • I really don't get offended by things like this.  NBD to me.   Babies were meant to come out vaginally but that's not always the safest method for both mom and baby.  Without totally messing this up, our bodies were designed to carry a baby and birth it vaginally.  I mean all those parts are connected so that is how our bodies were designed. Not that that is really a "benefit" but I wouldn't go crazy reading this.

EDIT:  I did have a c/s and have no idea whether I'll do an rcs or a vbac next time.  I'll figure that out when the time comes and how the baby is doing.

That's how I felt too.... It doesn't help me either way!

I know that our bodies were "meant" to birth vaginally, but just the wording of it!  It's not a "benefit" it's just how things are supposed to work.  But just like anything in life, things don't always go they way they are supposed to so there are back up plans.  It shouldn't be said to make you think you are a failure at not being able to do what "god intended you to do".

IDK, it just struck the wrong cord.  I'm not ready for #2 yet either, but I still like reading up on things so I'm one step closer to being ready.  I know I'll end up just following my bodies ques and baby's ques on what is right, but that wording is not supportive to me!

  • Ew. I'm so over women trying to shame other women on this issue. Can't we just be grateful to have medical technology available to safe lives in the cases where our bodies DON'T do what they're "designed" to? In the situation I was in, it would have been taking a huge gamble w/ both my life & my baby's to put off having a c-section any longer. I know this post was referencing VBACs, but I'm annoyed in general with feeling like I have to defend having had a c-section.

I haven't done enough research yet to determine if I'll go for RCS or try VBAC next time, but if I & my dr feel a RCS is safer for me and my baby then that's what we'll do, judgey mcjudgersons be damned. :)

  • My repeat csection was awesome! I'm glad I did it instead of a vbac.  So, did they have any decent "pros" for the csection? Ones that come to mind for me....I'm not incontinent and I dont have a torn up vagina? Lol

but seriously, where do people get off judging others by the way they birth a baby?  I don't care if someone does it med free, in a tub, or with an epidural. It's like people want a medal or something for proving their pain tolerance. Just be glad it's not the 1800s and mothers  just died along with the baby if something went wrong. I'm glad we have the options we have, and that both my babies got out safely...even if it was by scalpel.

I agree with this word for word.

  • I don't believe in God.  I do believe in evolution and survival of the fittest.  I think our brains have evolved to the point we've been able to invent technology that can save babies that might have otherwise died, and if this makes us fitter, we'll persist as a species.  Yay Darwin!

That's what I was wondering? Please enlighten us Cinnamon

I agree, this makes no sense.  Are you saying that being offended in general is immature or are you saying it's immature to be offended by what someone says but it would be okay to be offended by an action or a picture. Or are you saying is it okay to be offended by something spoken, but not if  it was written.   Why this distinction?  I would like you to come back and explain this.

  • I had all my kids natural except for my twins. If I did not have a c section they would have died for sure as well as myself. I think some people are just ignorant and don't think before they speak. (type)

Ps .. my twins are 8 mo's old too  =)
