Thrush treatment

In case those with thrush don't come back to my last post, who did you see? Your OB or primary? Did they also prescribe something for your baby?

Also what were your symptoms?

Thanks!

Re: Thrush treatment

  • I saw my ob. My lo had had a yeast. diaper rash. Then I had a vaginal yeast infection sorry tmi. Then my let down started to get really painful, I had random shooting pains through out breastfeeding and right nipple was suddenly having a new pain during feeds. The np wasn't sure it was thrush but put me on diflucan pills for 21 days just in case. I can't see anything in lo's mouth but I called the ped and told them my symptoms. Based on that they put lo on nystatin 4 times a day you rub it in the gums. 2 days since I am having much less pain, pretty
Much the pain Is gone and lo is latclatching without fussing. So I think it was thrush.

This is super long winded but call the ob if you are remotely suspicious. It's a nightmare if it goez untreated.

  • Afte doing more reading I'm sure that's what it is. Shooting stabbing pain and itchy nipples plus a fussy at the boob LO with lots of gas recently. He doesn't have any white patches though do that's why it wasn't my first thought

  • Exact same thing here but the meds worked within hours because they give you a loading dose.
  • I went to OB and was prescribed difulcan (sp?) but he did not prescribe anything for LO.  After a few days, I started feeling better, breastfeeding got SO much easier, and LOs diaper rash cleared up.  DO has not had any white patches and his pediatrician did not see any signs of thrush in him, so he has not been treated - just me, which makes me a little nervous but I am hopeful that we can keep it at bay.

  • I had it within the first couple of weeks of bf and it was AWFUL! LO didn't have any symptoms other than the gassines.  I don't really like taking antibiotics so my midwife had me try violeta and it worked within hours. after day 4 of applying it twice or more a day and sanitizing all the bottles and nipples it was pretty much clear. meanwhile, it did stain all my clothes that i was wearing during those days and my LOs mouth was tinted purple but it was cleared and I was SO grateful for that.

My symptoms were shotting pain, burning/itching nipple and baby was super gassy.  GL!
