Re: Brag Day Wednesday

  • Lily was over 10 kilos at her feeding Team appointment yesterday. That means she's over 22 lbs. And that means she's gained 4 lbs since September. That's a lot of weight gain for her, and I am over the moon about it! She's also grown 7 cm in 6 months!

Wow!  That is HUGE!  Seems all the "Lilies" are growing!

  • Nate knows his colors.

This is pretty huge to me since colors are an abstract concept and kids with his brain disorder sometimes have a lot of problems learning them. So, one more anecdotal "he will have problems with XYZ" off my list.

  • Amelie has started answering "what did you do today?" Yesterday she said "Morgan slide. You okay, Morgan?" I guess Morgan fell off the slide at school!

  • DD has started doing the hand motions they do at school to "Twinkle Twinkle" and "Open Shut Them." She will also "sing" along when we sing the songs to her. The other night she was babbling away to herself and I saw her doing the hand motions. She was singing the songs by herself!!!

  • DS has been asking for things at daycare.

And for as long as we have been there for the past 2 months, DS is doing really well behavior wise at his daycare.

  • DD1 is really enjoying the math concepts they're working on in preschool. This week she was using her fingers to show me, "Hey, Mama! Two plus two is four, and one plus three is four!" and "Five plus five plus five plus five is 20!" She's even teaching some things to DD2. It's so awesome to see this click for her and possibly be something she could excel at.

She's starting to anticipate things more and respond accordingly. She was doing a puzzle the other night when I started vacuuming, and she immediately picked up all the pieces and put the puzzle away because she said she didn't want them to get swept up.

And this made my morning yesterday. As we were leaving her class at drop-off, she was surveying the kids on the play rug (their first activity of the day) and another girl was playing with her favorite set of toys. She told me, "She won't share" (as in, she isn't going to share those if I ask) and went over to a boy and asked if she could have one of his triangles. It was a really nice moment of her assessing a situation, thinking about two classmates' likely reactions (theory of mind, yay!) and choosing the one where she was most likely to be able to successfully join in, even if it meant a less-preferred activity.

  • DD said what sounded like "love you" after I did when I put her down for her nap and bedtime yesterday 3

  • I wish I could "like" all of these brags!

  • I am mostly a lurker, some may remember I have two boys, one with ADD and currently being worked up for possible absent seizures and one with severe anxiety.  My younger son is the one with anxiety and he's come so far this year!   He used to drop to the ground and cover his head when stressed (even over something like someone complimenting his shirt etc) and now he just covers his face with his arm...improvement!  I was in his classroom yesterday and his teacher mentioned he's gotten really friendly with another little boy (he has had no friends up until this year) and she said they have started becoming little trouble makers.  I was so happy!  I laughed and said I should probably not be so happy that my child is being a trouble maker but I am so happy that he is!  Its just such a "typical" behavior and means he's becoming more comfortable! The teacher also told me she was so happy to see him like that she couldn't even discipline him. So, i'm bragging that my kid is causing problems at school :)

    that's great!

  • DD really broke out of her rigid play today. She has a set script her barbies usually follow, very rigid. Today they wore birkas and nose rings. Seriously I have no idea wear she heard either term but she used them correctly.

She also only referred to herself as Olivia a few times today. She is really improving on using I.  Her speech has come leaps and bounds!

    Olivia Kate is almost 4!
Diagnosed with autism this year and doing great!
  • B has been very appropriately initiating conversations. It's most likely a script but it but it's still awesome and functional.

Today he told me about his day with minimal prompting. Usually I have to pry it out of him with a lot of leading questions. Today I asked what center he played in. He told me he played in the Jack and the Bean Stalk Center. I asked if there was a giant and he said yes T was the giant, he was Jack and J was the giants wife.
