2nd Trimester

Hungry ALL the time!

I'm about 21 weeks now and seriously am starving every 3 hours.  I'm drinking lots of water and trying to choose healthy things, but this is insane!  I really don't want to gain too much weight but I'm having a hard time balancing how much to eat to not be hungry.

Does anyone have any good food recommendations that will keep me not hungry for more than 3 hours?  Or, what are some foods you keep handy to eat when the hunger strikes?

Thanks!

Re: Hungry ALL the time!

  • Girl, just eat.  I tried to be careful, and the more careful I was, the hungrier I became. Finally I just was like whatever, and then experienced weeks of not being as hungry.

Good luck. Not many things suck as much as being hungry.

  • I agree with PP just eat! I try to eat some protien and fiber together. . beans and rice, celery and peanut butter, broccoli and turkey breast. Anything that will get me through the day. Lately I have been having taco salad for lunch with tons of veggies and beans it seems to do the trick.
  • I agree w/pp's...my first pg, I was hungry all the time, but probably because I was being a little too cautious and restricting myself too much.  Not because I was afraid of gaining too much but because I was worried about the impact of certain foods on my health and baby's health.  I am less worried this time around and I'm pretty much eating whatever I want--but I'm still making sure that I get adequate intake of fruits and veggies every day.  I am staying pretty satisfied!  I like to drink a lot of milkshakes (I make them myself, with milk, ice cream, and strawberries) and I also eat plain yogurt with fruit or raisins, and I like Grape Nuts cereal and almost any other kind of cereal!

  • My doctor recommended having a snack every two hours. Doesn't need to be huge, but you shouldn't be going hungry! I just try to make them healthy snacks, frequently. (Like a yogurt, fruit, cheese, etc.)

  • Try to keep it nutritionally valuable if you eat like that. Think small frequent, nutrient packed items. Whole milk cheese, tofu, nuts, avocado, beans. Veggies. I find that Fiber one bars help two fold. One that they keep me regular and two that they keep me full. I find a flavor and change every week. I eat two a day.

Also, pack the fiber in with fruits and whole grains.

Honestly just eat. You are hungry for a reason.

  • It is normal to eat every 3 hours. I have always eaten every 2-3 hours, even while not pregnant. I have to eat often to have energy and not be hungry. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
  • The LO started moving more often like few weeks ago and now it moves every 23 hours and hints me to eat something. It moves more when I'm hungry. It's like my alarm clock to eat snack. Anyone else experiance this For a while I started eating anything that I tho of or was craving but now I'm starting make sure I don't use that as an excuse to eat anything I want.

You should just eat but be careful about what it is. There is nothing wrong with eating every 23 hours. I think better that way than eating big meals.

Enjoy it. It's the one time you get to be happy about gaining weight.
  • I wouldn't gorge yourself, but if your hungry it makes sense to eat something healthy. Almonds have been my go too hunger killing snack.

  • I am too-I have to get up in the middle of the night for a snack even!

I try to eat things high in protien with a carb-that seems to last longer.
