I've heard good things about elderberry syrup for daily use especially during cold/flu season ... If you use it, which brand and how much do you give to young toddler? Some seem more potent... Tia!
I was in the north of Sweden once and had elderberry cordial. It was delicious. The cordial from the flowers is in every grocery store here and it is quite common to see growing. I should make some from the berries next year! You do have to be careful as there is a similar plant with slightly different leaves which is poisonous. And if it has the added benefit of boosting immunity, even better.
I've heard a lot about it too. I recently bought some at Whole Foods (I forget the brand). My daughter has a runny nose and cough, and I've been giving it to her for about a week now. So far, it hasn't seemed to help her at all. In fact, she has a fever today so she is either getting worse or has two infections at once.
I've read different things about it, and a lot of the sources I found said not to use it long term, but rather just during illness.
Thanks! They sound awesome, this pregnancy has wrecked my immune system I can't wait to try it!
Wait.. It's okay to take during pregnancy??
Yes, it's perfectly safe during pregnancy. I'm almost 34 weeks, and I've been taking it all flu season.
I make my own. I buy organic, dried, black elderberries off of amazon, simmer them in water until it turns into a syrup. Once it's mostly cooled I add raw honey to taste. The honey helps it last a lot longer in the fridge (months as opposed to a week or two).

Wedmd advises against taking it while pregnant or BFing. There haven't been studies confirming its safety.
Lame! Well I guess I'll keep it on the back of my mind for another year or so! Maybe I'll make DH take it since he's been getting sick lots too.
