I have decided this month that I need to start making a major effort to take care of my body better: getting to sleep earlier, drinking more water, and eating healthier. I am considering doing some sort of juice cleanse to flush everything bad out of my system, but I am pretty skeptical.
What do you know/think about cleanses? Are they actually healthy, or just a fad? Do you know of a specific good one I should try?
Re: NTTGPR: Juice cleanses/detoxes
This.
Just eat real foods, and your body will take care of itself. Whole grains, fruits, veggies, etc.

This is what I've read. My ex-boyfriend used to do the juice cleanses and he would have diarrhea, puking, headaches, dizziness and he was too tired to exercise. He claimed that's how he knew the detox was working *eyeroll*. I pointed out, "That's probably happening because your blood sugar and insulin levels are completely out of whack and you haven't had any fiber or protein in a week."
After 2 weeks of that, he'd be craving food so badly, he'd just go back to eating McDonald's and Taco Bell instead of even taking the time to cook a meal.
If you want to cleanse, just aim to drink extra water and eat a mostly plant-based diet with a little meat every now and then. Avoid food that comes out of a box or a drive-through window. I wouldn't really call it a "cleanse" though since it's just a normal diet

I think it depends on what kind of cleanse you do and what you're looking to get out of it. I have done blue print cleanse and organic avenue and love them. But I've only ever done 3 day cleanses and was never expecting long term results.
I find it's a good way to kick start eating healthy after the holidays or way to drop a quick 3 lbs before a big event. That said, if you're looking to feel better long term you should just start eating better. Maybe do a 1 day cleanse to see if you like it?
I can't say enough good things about probiotics. I've started taking them, as well as eating more fermented foods, and am noticing a big difference.
