S/O chicken in a crockpot

I bought split chicken breasts, so they have the rib bones still attached. I was going to throw them in the crockpot to make some shredded chicken. Do you think I can kill two birds with one stone and make some chicken stock if I throw in some carrots, celery, and onions?

  • I'd say you for sure could. I've also done the same thing in the pressure cooker when I don't have as much time. When the chicken is done I'll swap out the broth and other veggies and put in the fridge with the chicken rib bone and let it meld together for an extra day. Then I'd put the chicken back in the pressure cooker for a short amount of time with whatever I was going to eat with the chicken..ie. black beans, broccoli, garlic..

  • I usually do it separately...but it can't hurt to try, right?  I can't see why it wouldn't work, though you may have to do a separate fat skim depending on how it cooks up.
