I don't. I didn't start water until James was eating solids like Cheerios. Purees and super steamed/mushy foods I don't give water with and that is all he will be eating for the next month or two.
We were told to offer water with solids, and it is also in the BLW book I read. I'm not sure if it is for purees as well, but I would assume so. We were told to make sure her intake does not exceed 3 or 4 ounces a day.
My mom has been telling me to give D water since day 1 to help with his skin...I tell her I give him a little every other day...but I don't. He gets formula which is made with water, and plenty of wet diapers....he'll get water soon enough.
The only time they have ever had any water is when they try to drink from my Nalgene. I use a Nalgene for all my water and they love to try to drink from it.
Usually this just ends up with all of us a sopping wet mess.
I should clarify that I don't just hand them the bottle but I try to hold it for them. They try to do it on their own though grabbing it.
Today was the first time I gave N any water, and she's been eating solids for around 6wks now. The only reason I gave her any was to get rid of her hiccups since I didn't want to make her a bottle and she had them for around 10 minutes. It was just a sip.
Our pedi said we should offer something to drink with solids once she gets on to more substantial food. Purees it's not really necessary since they're so runny as it is.
I bought a Nuby . I give it to him a couple of times a day for practice. He is still trying to figure it out, lol. He chews on it more than he sucks and only ever takes maybe an ounce a day. I like it because it does NOT leak at all!
Awesome, thank you! I am excited to get one and see what she does!

I haven't given my kid anything to eat yet...she hasn't expressed interest.
But...I had no idea about this whole sippy cup training and water stuff. I'll have to admit though, I often make comments to DH about how babies not being able to have water freaks me out...I mean, I know they don't know any better, but can you imagine quenching your thirst with milk...yuck.
at 6 months I introduce a sippy with water at meals. It helps with the transition from a bottle to sippy down the road. I don't think Keagan even got a good drink of water out of the sippy until much closer to 8 months, it was mostly just for practice.
Re: Water for kids
Huh? No, not to my knowledge. I water down her solids/cereals, but do so with formula, not straight water.
(read it. you know you want to.)

Yet they will not hold their own bottle.

My pedi says no water until 6 months, so except for what I use to thin out his homemade food, she's not getting water in a cup or anything.
