Recommend your forward-facing car seat (please)

Hi!  Pip is getting longer and her head is getting close to top of the car seat.  She currently has a Chicco Keyfit 30 - which we love - but it is time to move on.  I've been surfing the various sites, trying to find a good one - but there is just so much info out there it's a overwhelming.  So I'm wondering which seats you guys have and if you love 'em or hate 'em.  TIA!!

  • We got Britax Boulevards.  They can stay rear facing for a long time and then move to forward.  We're very happy with them.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!  I've read all the articles saying to keep the child rear facing as long as possible, but I was having an awful time finding a seat that converted to forward facing.  You have saved me a ton of time in add'l searching.  Thank you all!

  • I have two different carseats that are rear facing, front facing and can be used as a booster should you be looking for long term usage.

Diono RXT120:  Positives:  Skinnier than most and fits well rearfacing in a smaller back seat.  Folds up for easy travel and has a steel core so it is super safe.  Negatives:  Really heavy and hard to tighten due to the angle rear facing.

Evenflo Symphony 65 E3:  It is easy to use and DD loves it.  My one pet peeve is that it doesn't have pads on the straps and it is super bulky.  Although no more bulky than a Britax.

  • I have the Britax Marathon in both cars.  Bought them in 2010 when DS was about 9 months old.  We had him rear facing until the pedi said it was OK to turn him around which, believe it or not, was at 11 months.

  • We love our Graco MyRide65s. We have one for each of my older two. It's great because cost is significantly less than a Britax but also has great safety ratings. Plus the cup holders are a godsend! From sippy cups to handfuls of goldfish it helps keep the kids happy in the car!

All of this. Love our Boulevard. And my DS is a big boy and has plenty of time/room left rear facing in it. GL on your search. I know another brand a lot of people also like is Recaro.

  • We also have a Boulevard. During some manner of Amazon Mom sale a while back when we were about to transition, they had one at a great price, so we got one and put the Marathon we got at our shower in my Mom's car for her one day a week of kiddo watching.

I want to keep DS rear facing as long as we can, and he is not a big kid so its not a physical space issue yet, but it is such a contortion to get him in and out of the seat in our car I am wondering how I am going to do it when I have an actual bump to contend with...

  • Another vote for the Radian RXT. Also the True Fit is a great choice for extended RF if your kiddo is average weight. I actually wish we could have kept ours, but my LO is soon to outgrow the RF limits, and I want to keep him RF till 2 or later. It's a great seat.

  • We have the Recaro ProRide and the Diono Radian RXT.  Both great seats worth checking into.  The Radian is definitely more has a lot more leg room rear facing, so if that's a concern for you, definitely check out the Radian.  DS doesn't seem to mind bending his legs though, so I love the ProRide equally for the time being.

  • B has a Graco My Ride that I love, though she's still rear facing in it, so I can't speak to how it works FFing.  We also have an Evenflo Symphony 65 or something like that and I really don't like it. It was rated quite well and all, but it is not nearly as comfy as her MyRide and it doesn't have cup holders, which I have discovered are key on long car rides.

That's good to know...my seat has a cup holder-but we haven't really used them yet.  I actually looked at both of those seats, but I won a free (free is good) Safety 1st Complete Air 65 from taking the surveys they offered after I registered my infant seat.  I was a little worried it wouldn't fit rear facing, but I had no problems with the install in my Santa Fe.  The air protect "wings" work great because they keep LOs head from flopping when he sleeps in the car.  Install was easy (esp if you watch the video) and it will rear face to 40lbs-so I plan on going RF as long as possible.  It fits behind my seat with no problem & extra space. I have to reinstall our other seat on the passenger side soon.

I actually was going to get the MyRide for DHs car-but bc DS rides in it maybe 4 or 5 times a month-so I got the Safety 1st Guide 65 for $80 at Walmart.  It goes to 40 lbs RF as well.  It's a nice second seat for the price & I got my mom one as well. It also fits no problem RF in a 3 series BMW.....so good it doesn't bother the front seat passenger. They only thing on that one is you have to be careful not to twist the straps. I recommend it for anyone with a small car or for anyone who is really tall or needs their back seat.

  • We have a marathon as well and its a good seat - SUPER easy to install - the shells on Britax are supposedly shorter but G is a big kid and he's got plenty of room so far. We also have a MySize 70 by graco in my car and I loathe it. It is a heinous seat to tighten the straps - they don't work properly - I'd stay away from it, its a new seat from Graco and it just sucks.

We also have the Graco MyRide 65 and I love the cup holders as well. They really do make a difference. DS is now FF and I love it as a FF carseat. I liked it RF but it is a large car seat so it wasn't the easiest to manuever him in and out, but ultimately, I like that it's bigger and seems so comfy for him. No complaints here.
