Anyone's LO only taking two naps a day? Morning and mid afternoon?
Gio gets up at 6am, every day, on the dot. He was napping at 8am, 11am, and 1pm. This week, he has fought his 11am nap like hell. I mean, hell. He has just screamed for basically an entire hour and then I pick him up and he just looks at me like, "Alright, that was cool," and keeps going on with his day. I've rocked him back to sleep and forced him to take a 45 minute nap.
Today, I gave up. I just got him up after he had been screaming for yet another hour when I tried to put him down at 11:30am. He was fine; happy, smiling, laughing, so I didn't put him back down until now (1:30pm). So, he had been up 4ish hours. I put him down with his A&A blanket, seahorse, and pacifier and he was asleep five minutes later. No fuss, no fighting, nothing.
Everything I read says wake times are a MAX of 2.5-3 hours at this age...but, he was perfectly fine after 4 hours. He wasn't even crying. He rubbed his eyes as soon as 1:20 hit (his morning nap was 7:30-9) and I put him down.
Also, anything I read says that LOs are cutting out their last nap (3-4pm), not the one in the morning. And that if they do cut out a nap, they should take longer naps (we'll see about this one - he just went down).
So, I don't know. Just curious as to what everyone else's kids are doing.
ETA: He goes to bed every night at 6-6:30pm.

Re: Two naps?
He went back to normal though. I have no idea what his deal was.
You'll know when he's getting close to dropping a nap [its usually the last nap].
Hey I live in Seattle too!
L is usually up for 2 hours in the morning. Then she's up for 2-3 hours before her next nap. She pretty much only takes two naps, but if one is a crappy nap, I try to get her down for a 3rd. She gets up between 6 & 7AM and goes to bed around 7PM. Her naps are around 1.5-2 hours typically. Although, she's been totally messing with me lately. Ugh!
DS has only ever taken 2 naps. I wake him up at 6:30am to feed him and take him to the baby sitters and he falls asleep on the way there but I just count that as his "sleep" time so he sleeps from 8:30pm until about 9:30am. He'll take a nap around 11-12 for an hour or so then again at 2:30/3 (but he sometimes refuses this nap). Then he is up until bedtime unless he falls asleep in the car on the way home and cat naps for 20 minutes (which rarely happens).
Guess I'm messing my kid up by keeping him awake longer than the expected 2.5-3 hours but he never fusses, yawns, or even rubs his eyes. Overall- he's a super happy baby and well adaptable.
This!! Jayandemm, what is up with our kiddos? B has pretty much dropped his am nap the past week...grrrr

We're in that awkward stage of being almost ready to drop that last nap, but still kind of needing it. Right now he goes to bed at 7:30 and wakes up at 6. He naps from 8-10, 12-2, and usually 4:30-5.
When it seems like it's time to drop it, then I'll start stretching his awake times in the morning and midday. So his new schedule would look more like: up at 6:30-7, nap at 10-12 and 2-4, to bed at 7:30.
I tried letting that 3rd nap go a couple of weeks ago, but he wasn't quite ready. However, with just two naps he sleeps til 7am instead of 6.
With Gio, it doesn't surprise me that he's fighting the middle nap, because his 3rd nap is still early enough in the day that there's no way he could cut that one out. If I were you, I would stretch his first waketime, so that he's napping mid morning and then again in the afternoon. It would take him a few days to get used to it.
Just my two cents, good luck!
I think a lot of times when babies drop their afternoon naps, they are naps at 3 or 4 pm. Your nap is at 1 PM. I can't see that your DS would want to nap at 11 and then be up from 12-6:30. Since he clusters his earlier naps, it sort of makes sense that he'd move to one AM and one PM nap.
All sounds normal. Don't worry about it. And, don't worry if your baby isn't doing what the books say, you know your baby best.
Charlotte dropped her evening catnap in early February. Now I only put her down for a third nap if she wakes early from one of her naps and can't go all the way until bedtime without a nap.
Here is our daily routine:
7:30 = Wake up, eat, and play
10:00-noon = Nap
Noon = Wake up, eat, and play
3:00-4:30 = Nap
4:30 = Wake up, eat, and play
6:00ish = Solids (just started this)
7:00 = Last bottle of the day, quiet play or bath, get ready for bed
7:30 or 7:45ish = Bedtime!
10:30 = Dreamfeed
So, as you can see, her morning wake time is about 2.5 hours, her afternoon and evening each about 3 hours.
