When did you/are you going to start your maternity leave?

How close to your due date?

My due date is a Wednesday, and I'm thinking about telling work my last day will be the Friday after, if I make it that long.

Re: When did you/are you going to start your maternity leave?

  • I was put out of work by my OB on a Friday and delivered that monday but my preg. was different than most.

I was a supervisor at my last position and one of the girls worked right up until her due date (she actually delivered on her due date) and was miserable.  I wish I had also taken more time to get things ready.

If you are able to I would take a week off before your due date so that you can get the final touches done and take a little time for yourself because it will be a long time before you can take time for you!

  • When I was pregnant with DD, I said that my due date would be my last day of work.  I knew mentally I'd be a mess if I went past my due date.  I figured my concentration level would drop off and I wouldn't get much work done.  Every little ping or pang I'd most likely have panicked!

Instead, I had DD a week early and that ended up being how I determined my last day of work!

I'd say that aiming for 2 days past your due date is a good idea...although I'd still prefer to hope to have my baby BEFORE my due date!!!  I just had "issues" with going past my due date I guess!

  • I planned to work as long as possible, but I got put on modified bed rest(i.e. I could do whatever I wanted as long as it had nothing to do with work and I took at least 1 nap a day!) about 2 weeks before my due date because my blood pressure was elevated.
  • I had orginally said my last day would be a week before my due date, but Sophia came 9 days early, so my last day was the Sunday before she was born (she was born on a Tuesday).
  • With my first, I started my maternity leave on my due date....but then my daughter was two weeks late, so I felt like I wasted that time that I could have spent with her.  The wait was awful, too, since I was basically home alone with nothing to do.  With my second, I was determined to stick it out until the end so I'd have as much time as possible with my baby.  Luckily, she was born a week early and my last day of work was the day before I delivered.  The only bad thing about that is that it left my employer in a little bit of a crunch, but I didn't really care about that!  :)

  • I was off two weeks before DS was born due to very high BP so I was put out medically.  I was released to go back to work after the first week, but decided to take the extra week just to be sure and ended up having an emergency c-section at 34 weeks and never returned to work before DS was born.  I'm lucky though I still had 10 more weeks of sick leave I took due to his prematurity and took 2 weeks vacation before returning to work.

  • I knew I was only going to have 8 weeks off for maternity leave, so I worked as long as I could. I ended up being induced on a Mon., but I worked until the Fri. before. Everyone at work kept telling me I was crazy and shouldn't be there, but I was determined to have my leave be spent with DS rather than waiting for him! It wasn't too bad since I work in a school, so I had off for most of the summer and had in-service days that led up to my induction date. There was a plan at school and everything just in case something happened.
  • I had planned until working up until my due date.  Now it's looking like I will be on bed rest at some point so I don't know how it will all work out.
  • As long as everything goes smoothly, I am planning on working right up until I have the baby. I started my job after I was pregnant, so I was not eligible for short term disability. I work for a school but am contracted for 189 days. The more days I work out of those 189, the more I get paid for. I'm due at the end of April and will have the summer off, but would like to get in as many paid days as I possibly can.
  • I get paid on the 15th and 30th of each month, and I was due on the 18th.  So I made my last day the 15th, and then I gave birth on my due date three days later!
Anxiously awaiting DD #2! EDD 2/5/12
  • Woops..previous post from me.  I guess I was logged in as my old nest name.
