Best advice for going low carb...get rid of everything in your house that has carbs and having your SO do it with you will help as well. Stay strong!!!
It absolutely does work, but for me it's very hard to stick to. There is hidden sugar in EVERYTHING.
I am in the same boat, but I have done very low carb in the past. All it gets me is a junk food binge after 5 - 6 days and I gain everything back anyway. I am trying to focus more on whole foods now, less processed junk, less sugar, no empty carbs, etc. It's a little more balanced and I don't feel like I would hunt someone down and kill them for a bite of an Oreo.
I lost a bunch of weight using the Dr Phil diet which is low carb [1 to 3 servings per day depending on the stage] and it worked for me but I had to add more carbs after a while because my energy level seriously suffered and once I did I started to gain weight back. So for me it's not a good strategy. I think I'll try Weight Watchers once I am done BFing to try and get this baby weight off me.

This is what I am worried about . I feel like it will lead to a binge. I have heard that one will regain all the weight once they start eating carbs again. Another one of my fears.
Weight Watchers is great. The only thing that's a problem for me is weighing and measuring everything, and figuring out recipes, etc. Maybe I'm just lazy...LOL. But I do find that it helps just keeping a food journal and writing down everything you eat. Seeing it in black and white really makes a difference.

What if I throw in one cheat meal?
I really think it depends on the person. For me personally, once I say that x food is "off limits" I get crazy. Instead of allowing myself a cheat meal, I try to focus on limiting or avoiding certain things, but still allowing them in moderation. I would rather have a couple of bites of dessert throughout the week than one huge hot fudge sundae on Saturday night.

I am doing weight watchers right now. I am losing a little weight very slowly and it has helped to make me pause and think about what I am eating before I just start shoveling it in my mouth. Maybe slow is the way to go and I should just stick with weight watchers. But, oh man, am I sick of being overweight. I have 23 lbs to go until I hit my goal/wedding weight.
While I was pregnant I did a diet that is put out by the American Diabetes Association for my gestational diabetes and lost a LOT of weight in just a few months. It has a great combo of healthy carbs and fats and things like that. It was also nice because they had a list of foods and how they fit into the diet. I would be happen to scan the stuff to you! I think I am going to go back on it and fit Body by Vi shakes into it! I also lost a lot of weight when I did those. I wouldn't go carb free or low carb, because if you have any muscle at all, that is the first thing your body will "eat" for energy and you will lose a lot of muscle and it is hard to get it back!

I'm right there with ya and I have about 30 lbs to get to my goal weight. I go through phases where I get a little frustrated and have a bad week (entire week) and gain a few lbs back but then I get back on track and start again. I find that allowing myself to do that has helped me need to less and less. I just count calories and all the healthy choices seem to fall into place after that. Before I got pregnant with LO I lost 50 lbs but gained the 25 back during pregnancy.
I would love to see the info on this diet. I would hate for you to have to go to the trouble of scanning it. Can I get it online somewhere? Oh, and what are body by Vi shakes? They sound delicious!

I think slow and steady wins the race...
I think you are right about slow and steady.
I am just sick of the roller coaster. I lost 20 lbs to get to my wedding weight and then about a year later I gained the 20 lbs back when I went off some meds to TTC. And then I gained almost 50 lbs during pregnacy. I have only about 3 lbs to go until I get to my prepregnancy weight and then another 20 after that. I am exhausted.

Slow is the way to go. You are more likely to keep weight off if you make lifestyle changes. And really, do you want to cut off an entire food group? I never understood this. (Promise, not being mean - just don't get it.) Keep doing what you are doing. If you are losing weight, any amount, it is working.
Besides, it took many many months to gain the weight, give it some time to lose it.

No, I totally get it and pretty much agree. I tried it once a long time ago and couldn't stick to it. I guess I just wish there was an easy fix (which I know is not a good way to look at things)
