For a 42 day cycle she may not ovulate until CD 30ish. She may be having an even longer cycle this time. I would keep going to at least CD 35 to 40ish. I would also get the cheapie OPKs and test 2x a day but I am a crazy obsessed TTC lady!

IMO, if her cycles are that long, she may want to get her thyroid and endo system checked... Something could be messing with her and for all practical purposes might not even be ovulating.. For us, it took getting the thyroid functioning normally before I could get a BFP in spite of OPK's, charting, etc....
I would quit them at this point, to be honest. Did you tell her about other fertility signs, like CM and CP, or would that be a bit too much for her?
I also would recommend testing twice a day (late morning and afternoon) with cheapies, maybe she'll do that when she gets more and more frustrated with her ttc journey. I still hope she'll get lucky this month! :-)
I wouldn't quit unless she is getting super stressed about it. With this pregnancy I didn't get a positive OPK until CD 23. On the other hand you could just HIO until AF or BFP but that sounds exhausting.
