DD is allergic to penicillin and therefore should not eat brie or camembert cheese. Sounds strange doesn't it? I was making lunch this weekend and almost gave DD some brie, thankfully I glanced at the ingredients before giving her any. Brie contains an ingredient known as penicillium candidum which shares some relation to penicillin and has beeen known to cause an allergic reaction in those with penicillin allergies. Camembert cheese also contains this ingredient. Just though I'd share.
Does this only hold true for LOs? I am allergic to penicillin but have had Brie and have had no problems.
From what I can tell, it doesn't cause a reaction in everyone who has a penicillin allergy, but it does for some. I figure it is not worth testing on a LO. Perhaps it also depends on the quantity eaten.
