Trying to Get Pregnant

Prenatal vitamin help

I went to Walmart and bought the spring valley 1 per day parental. I had heard in the past a few ladies saying it made them sick to their stomach so I decided to take them at night. Last night was night 2 of taking them. Today CD2 but irrelevant I woke up sick to my stomach. Within 10 minutes I had a sweaty mouth and was throwing up everywhere. I've been nauseous all day. Thoughts on prenatals? People have suggested gummies, but the gummies I saw did n't have the right comic acid count.

Re: Prenatal vitamin help

  • Taking folic acid alone shouldn't upset your stomach, just don't take it a couple of hours before or after you have caffeine, otherwise it doesn't absorb properly.  The gummy prenatals didn't make me feel too sick.  I've also heard of obs recommending a flinstones vitamin + folic acid if you have a really weak stomach.

  • That's a good idea. I could take the frolic acid separate. I'll give the flint stones a try also. I don't need to be waking up throwing up without a good darn reason ;

    Thanks!

  • I use vitafusion gummies and an iron supplement. I take them each night with dinner and have had no problem. If you're a vegetarian, it has fish.

Does anyone have a good vegetarian prenatal suggestion with DHA? I couldn't find any at my Walgreens.

  • I started out by taking a generic brand, also, but then I looked at the ingredients and realized that I didn't want to start my (potential) baby out with artificial colors and chemicals.

I use the GNC brand prenatals with DHA added. They run about $20 a month and you do have to take 3, but they do not contain any chemicals or artificial anything.

I take my three at the same time, after I eat breakfast, and have never had a problem with nausea.

    Best of luck!

  • New Chapter has an awesome all natural prenatal that will be easy on your stomach.  You do have to take 3 daily, but there are 160 (or something like that) in one bottle.  As far as DHA goes, you can get it from flax seed oil, but really the best quality is going to come from fish.  I was born and raised vegetarian but started eating fish as an adult.  From all that I've seen, the fish one is your best bet.  Unless you are very strictly vegan--then flax away!!!

  • I take Spring Valley and haven't had any problems getting sick with them. With vitamins in general, I've found I have to take them with a meal or I'll get sick. You could try taking them with a meal to see if that helps.

Spring Valley is the only brand of vitamins I've never had a problem with. Even Flintstones gave me problems.

OP, you just have to figure out what vitamins work for you.

  • I'm taking the Target Prenatal Gummies. They have never made me sick and I can take them at anytime.

I had the same issue when I started taking my pre-natal.  Without food it made me feel awful, but once I started taking it with breakfast I've been fine.  I actually take Complete Natal DHA, which is generic prescription and includes a vitamin and DHA pill.  The prescription part is a bit annoying, but it was the cheapest way to go for me.  With my insurance it runs $20 for 3 months.  Good luck finding one that works for you!

  • I just take a store brand. I take them with a meal, eating half the meal and then taking the vitamin and then finishing it. Occasionally it will bother my stomach (from the iron I'm assuming) and I'll have a little nausea and a tiny bit of reflux, but it's not actually made me sick. Definitely try a flinstone and separate folic acid maybe. I've heard that iron isn't too big of a deal until you are actually pregnant (unless you're already deficient in it) and then you can address that.

  • My dr had prescribed one kind for me (I can't remember the name it was so long ago) but they made me throw up. I've been taking Rainbow Lite prenatals for a while now. They are vegan but that's not why I take them. They are super easy on the stomach and I haven't had any issues. I get them on amazon or at Target.
