Trying to Get Pregnant

Intro & Opinions on Acupuncture or Chiropractic Care

Hi ladies. Long-time lurker, first time poster. I've lurked literally for years and always found this site to be especially helpful and full of smart women. I'm up on the rules. I promise not to post pictures of my cervical fluids, drive-by with a bfp in three weeks or wish any of you baby dust, baby breath or baby farts.

I'm 32, MH is 39. We have a daughter who turns three next week and are TTC #2. I temp, chart, use OPKs and am generally well-versed in the workings of my lady bits. I had a partial molar pregnancy this past September and a chemical pregnancy in January. So yeah. I've been around the block and definitely don't puke rainbows and kitties about TTC, but enjoy discussing the ins and outs (pun intended) with women who know the business.

My question of the day is for anyone who has tried and would care to share their experience with acupuncture and/or chiropractic care as it relates to fertility and overall wellness. Why did you try it? Did you like it? Notice a difference in your cycle? Other benefits beside fertility? I'm interested in trying them, along with other holistic health things that I already do to try and encourage my body not to be such a b*tch.

 TIA!

Re: Intro & Opinions on Acupuncture or Chiropractic Care

  • I have been going to acupuncture since around Thanksgiving, and while I am not pregnant yet, I feel like it has helped me in some ways. I originally went for my anxiety and when I told her I was ttc, she also started me on "fertility" treatments. As far as my cycle goes, it has been more on schedule and I also don't get cramps as strong or for as long.

I also have pretty bad anxiety and am hoping acupuncture might help. Did you notice any improvement? Thanks for your response!

  • I started acupuncture last month, going once per week. I started going both for anxiety and fertility reasons.

After 4 sessions, I am unsure.  My cycle seemed pretty much the same, and I am having a hard time deciding if my anxiety has lowered or not.

I am willing to give it 2 months total to see a difference in my cycle (or of course, the ultimate goal, to get a BFP). This may be too short of a time frame, but because of the expense, I don't feel comfortable going more long term than that without any results.

Welcome and best of luck to you.

  • I have no insight on acupuncture but just wanted to say I love your screen name. Mokiki does the sloppy swish!
  • Welcome and good luck!

I can't speak to chiropractic in relation to TTC but I have had many positive experiences with my chiropractic treatment.  I was nervous going at first, but I've built a really good relationship with my doctor and can honestly say, he and his magic hands have done wonders for my back and neck pain.  I go frequently during acute scenarios, like when my sciatica is acting up, but even when I'm not in crisis, I tend to go every other month or so for a "tune up", I got all outta whack regularly.  It's been my saving grace when it comes to back pain.

  • I post On the ttcal board but your post caught my eye.  I started acupuncture for my crazy long cycles back in August and got a bfp 1.5 months later (I ovulated for like the first time ever in 10 yrs and got KU) unfortunate we had a loss in late October. I am still going weekly and take the Chinese herbs by making a tea and my cycles are getting shorter so I know it's working but it takes time and patience. I am planning on going every two weeks now.

My husband is actually a chiropractor and I do believe proper alignment is key to all around health and the more healthy you are the better you will be to conceive when the time is right. I think acupuncture is a better for fertility specifcally because you can get custom herbs. I hope this was helpful.

  • I usually lurk, but I thought I'd comment on this thread. I went and did acupuncture during the cycle before getting my BFP. I went to acupuncture 4 times before getting my positive test, and I was doing it for fertility. I went to an Oriental Medicine Doctor, and she not only did acupuncture, but she also prescribed me herbs to take in between sessions. She said my main problem was blood flow to the uterine area, according to the exam she did on me. One thing I did notice was that after doing acupuncture, I had a lot more EWCM than I had in the previous 6 months of TTC. Like a lot more. I don't know if the acupuncture had anything to with it or with my subsequent BFP, but I found it quite relaxing.

    Good luck!

  • I'm a big fan of both!!!  I am not doing either for fertility reasons, but I can say that I feel amazing with both.  The acupuncture has done wonders for my anxiety and depression; I look forward to my appointments so much because I just feel so good during and afterwards.  It's so relaxing!  I have been going weekly/biweekly for about six weeks now and I have noticed a major difference.  Chiropractic has helped my overall back/neck pain and also feeling more energized.  Also, both have helped with my pelvic pain issues, which was a major reason I started going as well.  I have been going to chiropractors literally since I was in utero :-)  Most of my childhood medical stuff was chiropractic (parents were hippies).  Anyway, I highly recommend both for overall health/wellbeing, but again, I can't speak for fertility reasons.
