8 Month Old Sleep Issues...HELP Please!!

My 8 month old has never slept through the night. He is great at napping and great during the day. At night he goes down between 7-8 and falls asleep with his binky on his own. Around 12, or lately sooner, he wakes up..he won't take his binky to go back to sleep the only thing that puts him back to sleep is a bottle. Once he is done with his bottle I make sure he burps and put him down...within 10 minutes he's crying again. Lately the only way he will stay asleep is if me or my husband are holding him or if he is in our bed, which we don't want him to get used to. He is up anywhere from 2-6 times a night screaming and the same thing won't take his binky but will fall asleep with his bottle, but not stay asleep unless we hold him for at least 30 minutes. I feel that he should be sleeping much better and I need him to for our sake as well. We did the CIO method a few weeks ago and it worked for a week, by work I mean only up for 1 feeding, but now it's worse. He screams for up to an hour and gets himself so turned around in his crib and then gets mad. My friend suggested speaking to a sleep specialist, but I feel that 8 months might be a little young for that.

Has anyone else experienced this or something similar? What did you do and what worked? I am seriously at my wits end and really hope that someone has some good suggestions. Thanks in advance.

  • Have you tried a white noise machine or a night light? We use the dreamlite and my DS seems much happier with this. He was getting up every 45 minutes, last night he slept 10-6.

Also, my LO rolls onto his tummy when he fusses. I've noticed he likes tummy sleeping.

I really hope you all get some sleep soon!

  • Thank you for the advice. We have a night light on his humidifier. I thought about the dreamlite too. I'll try that. He does have a radio that plays lullabies in the background.
  • Cooper is almost 8 months, and we noticed a sleep regression staring. Yesterday, we responded by going back to doing the sleepeasy check ins. He woke up at 11, checked in for about an hour ( the longest we had ever gone) and he slept until 6, ate and went back to sleep for another 2 hours. My guess would be to go back to your sleep training method, and be consistent with it. FWIW, Cooper only went down to 1 motn feed, but I was ok with that b/c he was able to get himself back to sleep.

    Good luck.

  • I feel for you! I second a white noise machine loud all night and nightlight or one of those crib soothers.  But in all honesty its probably going to take alot of work and cio nights:(  Pick one method and stay consistent.  If he gets himself all twisted up, you may want to pick a method where you go back in and check on him and keep reassuring him and repositioning him in the crib.  It sucks though, i wish you good luck!
  • Ugh - that's terrible.  I feel for you.  I don't have any great advice.  I'm in a similar boat with DD although she is only up 2-3 times per night which is not causing me too much trauma.  I hope your LO passes through this phase quickly!

  • has he always been waking that many times or is this recent? There is a huge sleep regression at this age..
