Baby Showers

Friend's baby shower...

One of my very dear friends lives about 3 hours away, and her original shower was scheduled for mid-April. Was on my calendar and I was all set to be there. I find out yesterday that her mom and bff had to move the shower to late March. I already have a flight booked to see my family for that weekend. Technically the ticket is refundable, but there are no other dates in the near future that I have a 3-day weekend at work, as well as happen to have a ride to and from the airport (also 3 hours away). Am I a terrible friend if I stick with my plan to visit my family?? Really torn on this one.

Re: Friend's baby shower...

  • Thank you ladies. I like this advice. I am in complete agreement that it is not all that big of a deal...but I am not as sentimental as many others... So it's nice to hear from others that I'm not being a terrible friend.

  • You're not at all a terrible friend.  It's really sweet that she's important enough to you that you'd even consider missing out on a three day visit with your family for a couple of hours with her.  I'm sure she'll understand.

No.  A shower really isn't THAT big of deal...people are making them out to be like weddings, which they are not.  I say stick with your plans.  If you feel bad meet your friend for lunch or dinner another time.
    Yup.  This.

And honestly - while my shower was fun, I was more excited for people to meet my son AFTER he was born!

A shower really is just a gift giving event.  The baby isn't even there yet, and the BABY is the important part of the equation!

  • No, they changed the date on you.  You had other plans.  AND...family always comes first!

  • My BFF couldn't make it to my shower. NBD.
  • No, you are not a terrible friend.  Things happen and people get double booked.
