I am 38wks., 3days along, i went to my Dr. appt. today and my bp was up 143/83. and he said my cervix is no where close to being ripe and i'm 1cm. dilated. he was concerned about my bp so he sent me to the hospital for full lab workup and a Non stress test with instructins to be kept untill labs came back. all was fine and i get the joy of another 24hr. urine test! but he asked me if i wanted to be induced on Monday. i said yes, but now i'm second guessing my decision, i will have to be in the hosp. longer, i have heard that being induced is more painful than letting your body go into labor on its own, there is a greater chance of c-section. I go back to the Dr. on thursday so i can still change my decision i guess. i just dont know what to do now. I know not being dialted does not really mean anything, i have read and read that but it's so different when it you and your baby!
Re: Second guessing myself now!
Like the PP said, it would probably be better to wait a bit longer depending on the results of your urine catch.
Yeah, I would definitely talk further about it on Thursday because I'm not following why he would be inducing you. Maybe see about another U/S to see where they're thinking baby size is at (which honestly still wouldn't sway me towards an induction unless they were estimating some massive baby), see where your BP is at that point, and see if your cervix has become anymore "favorable".
I remember how frustrating it was to go into my 39.5 week appointment and find out that I was not at all dilated and that my OB wouldn't induce until 42 weeks, but then I went into labor on my own a few days later and it was such a great experience. I'm really hoping to have a similar experience this time and I'm trying to be prepared to stay relaxed if/when I find out I'm not dilated or effaced prior to 40 weeks.
GL!!!!
If you're second guessing then you're not completely comfortable and you need to be. Definitely ask to discuss it further and decline if you still feel uneasy. You could go into labor on your own next week or you may end up being induced at a later date, but if you feel it's best to wait it out a while longer then do that.
