Trying to Get Pregnant

GTKY- We say it with cookies...how about you?

In my town many women announce their pregnancy with chocolate chip cookies.

I kinda thought this was a 'thing' all over but the more I tell people about it looks like it is more local than I thought.

When you are ready to announce your KTFU you take in cookies to the office after work and then they next day (usually mid day) everyone gathers to hear who brought the cookies....

I have a daycare. The moms announce to us that they are expecting by bringing cookies for snack.

Once a new to town daycare mom brought CCC as a treat and I went nuts congratulating her....she just stared at me like I was a loon...my first clue it wasn't a 'thing' everywhere!

We got one of those announcements today and as I sit here eating cookies I wonder if your town has a unique way to share baby announcements?  Everyone in my town knows what chocolate chip cookies mean and even though I have a killer recipe I can't ever take them anywhere!!  Haha

Re: GTKY- We say it with cookies...how about you?

  • I have never heard of that before. That's really cute! Do you live in a small town? I only ask because that seems like something that would be embraced in one. I've lived in small towns and have always appreciated that type of community.

  • That's a cute idea. We definitely don't have that in my area, or I have never heard of that before.

  • That's hilarious. I've never heard of it but chocolate chip cookies sound good right now. In my town people use Facebook to announce it. I don't plan on doing that.

  • I've never heard of that either, but that's the cutest thing! I wish my town/workplace had something fun like that.

  • aww I think that's a cute idea. we don't do much of anything like that where I'm from. people just announce things on Facebook and word spreads like wildfire lol

  • No. People just say they're pregnant here. That'd be kind of weird to me, if someone gave me cookies to say they're pregnant. Never experienced that before.

  • I think it's funny I didn't realize it was a local thing until a few years ago.

All of my daycare families know that we would start TTC after our December wedding and some of them thought they were mine....I can't wait until they are!

we have a population of almost 11,000.  Not sure how it got started...

  • That is sooooo adorable! We don't have anything like that where I live now or where I grew up.

    Also, I want cookies now.

That sounds fun but it means nobody in your town can bring cookies anywhere which would suck.

Only CC cookies mean baby...all other cookies are fair game.  I have an awesome snickerdoodle recipe!

  • That's awesome! I live in the San Fransisco Bay Area (huge population) and work in a male dominated field so we don't get any pregnancy announcements at work.  The closest thing we have to a tradition at work is that you are supposed to bring in donuts for everyone before you go on vacation.  Why chocolate chip?  Do peanut butter or oatmeal cookies mean anything?  If you add walnuts, does that mean its a boy? haha sorry..

  • I want cookies now too - :/

I have not heard of that before, that is adorable!  I am in PHX and people either tell over Facebook by some cutesy sign or peed on stick or they just tell you in person.  It would be way more fun if cookies were involved..

  • I love this idea but I've never heard of it before.

My friends tend to Facebook and ultrasound oicture.

  • We usually just annouce it with a phone call, or if we happen to see someone, we tell them in person. Then it spreads, and everyone seems to know within a couple of days.

    ETA: Too many words.

  • That is seriously adorable.

Wish I could say we had something as cute - but nope! :)

  • That is such a cute idea! My only problem is that I love CCC way too much to only have them when someone is pregnant! Hah.
There is nothing like that in my town. A Facebook pee stick picture is probably as creative as most get.
  • Never heard of anything like that, but I wish I lived in a town like that because I love small town quirky stuff like that!

Oh you get to eat the cookies right away!!   You just bring them in after everyone has gone home so they don't see you bring them in :)

  • That sounds cute!  There's nothing like that around here.  The closest thing I heard to this regards weddings and not birth announcements.  At weddings in the Pittsburgh area the couples family and close friends each bake a plate of cookies.  A cookie table is set up next to the cake.
  • At work, it's pretty common to bring in donuts to share for lots of occasions. People send an email out so you know to stop by their desk and they mention the occasion there.

We do have a candle passing ceremony in my sorority to announce pregnancy, so you're sharing it with the whole group at the same time.

Hullo neighbor! DH & I live in Point Richmond, which is as close as you can get to a "small community" in the Bay Area, but I still don't think we have anything like this.

  • haha - I've never heard anything like that before!  I feel bad for the new-to-town daycare mom.  I make chocolate chip cookies all the time, lol, I would hate to give that up :-p.

Here I guess we're just boring.  We either tell people "hey, I'm pregnant" or put it on facebook.
