Intro and Question

Hello bumpies! I am a graduate of the TTTC board, and I have been lurking on here for a while now. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my twins. I am about 13 weeks and 4 days now. My question is about night time hunger pains. I wake up in the middle of the night to pee, as usual, but I'm also starving too. Do any of you actually have a snack at 4am? Or do you just go back to bed? Lately, I've just been too tired to actually make the trip to the kitchen, but then I wake up with so much guilt, when I don't eat.

Re: Intro and Question

  • Congrats and welcome! Definitely keep a snack and water by your bed. I always kept granola bars or peanut butter crackers nearby. My MFM even recommended Snickers bars! In the end, I woke up every hour and a half to use the restroom and I would often grab a tiny snack to tide me over. Anything with protein is great. You've got two little ones taking all of your food- Mama needs to eat! Like newborns, they don't understand that the middle of the night is not eating time- it's sleep time!

  • I felt ridiculous, but I definitely snacked in the middle of the night when I felt it was necessary. Try to pick something with lots of protein (my go-to was string cheese or greek yogurt) that will tide you over and be good for growing babies. Snack away!

  • My nutrionist said if you wake up and are hungry-eat something! She suggested keeping something by the bed-some peanut butter crackers or nuts or something.  I've gotten up a handful of times b/c i was hungry-and couldn't go back to sleep without getting something in my belly!

  • Congrats! Yes Eat for sure whenever you are hungry......I would often gulp down a glass of chocolate milk or a yogurt drink in the middle of the night to tide me over till morning!
  • Congrats!!  I would always drink a glass of milk or have a bowl of cereal when I woke up in the middle of the night.  The milk actually helped me to sleep pretty good afterwards.  You need to keep those babies and your body nourished, no matter the time of day or night.
