Hernia

Anyone else been told that you have a hernia during this or a previous pregnancy?

At my 20 week appointment yesterday, my Dr. said I have a hernia. It is right around my belly button causing it to poke out. So I assume it's an umbilical hernia. He didn't say and I didn't think to ask. I was so surprised, I couldn't think to ask questions. My Dr. didn't seem extremely concerned about it. But he did say it may require surgery after delivery. Against my better judgment, I've been googling it and don't like what I'm reading.

I guess I'm wondering how common this is? What other's experiences are? And if there's anything I can do to keep it from getting worse?

Hope all this made sense! Thanks!

  • i have had a hernia and it has never bothered me one bit, but my belly button area is way more sensitive during  pregnancy which is one reason why i hate for people to rub my belly.   I may get mine fixed after the baby gets here, but if it's never bothered me i don't wanna bother it b/c whose to say that it wont start giving me issues after i have surgery.
  • Thanks for the replies! Yeah, my belly button area is pretty sensitive. I really hate the idea of surgery, but also worry about how it will look cosmetically. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
