Trying to Get Pregnant

Getting Pregnant Post-Mirena

I had my mirena removed on January 21st. It took 5 weeks to the day for AF to return. SIDENOTE: my doctor said it could be 3-6 weeks.  Anywhoo, just curious as to who is TTC post mirena and what your experiences have been with it. When I got pregnant with my daughter I was on the pill and my cycles stayed the same after I stopped taking it. But with Mirena, I didn't have AF for over 2 years so I'm charting to help me figure out what's going on.  Thoughts from other women going through this post mirena are always helpful since this is my first go-around post an IUD.

 TIA.

Re: Getting Pregnant Post-Mirena

  • I had mine removed Nov. 21st. I had some break through bleeding and then had my first AF 16 days later. I've been pretty regular (28-30 day cycles) and have been ovulating as well. You can see my chart in my siggy.

  • I had my Mirena removed 12/12.  I started withdrawl bleeding on 12/14 and that lasted 2 days.  I got my first real AF on 1/14.  It was a shorter than normal cycle at 24 days.  I am now on my 2nd post-Mirena cycle and it looks like my cycle is back to normal (O on cd15-17).

  • I got mine out in October 2011 and had a withdrawal bleed ~ a week later. I've had very regular cycles, confirmed O by charting, ever since.

  • I had a Mirena after DD2. After I got it removed to TTC it took us 7 months to get pregnant. 2 months after I got the Mirena removed I had a month long period and my doctor put me on Provera to get my period back on track. Good luck I hope you get your BFP soon!

  • I had mine removed on 12/19, and AF on 12/21. With Mirena I had a regular cycle of 24 days. After Mirena was removed, my first cycle was 26 days, and the second was 27, which got my hopes up when AF was late. I'm now on my 3rd post Mirena cycle and hope that it will soon get back to normal. I'm planning to start charting next cycle to confirm when I ovulate. I always looked at EWCM for that, but with the variances on the cycle lenght, I'm not sure I can rely on that.
  • I had my Mirena removed on 12/2 and had what I thought was a light period from 12/4-12/6. I think now it was just from the removal. I was nursing up until 2/7 and STILL no AF. So, between the Mirena and nursing, it hasn't made a comeback. I am going to wait a few more weeks then call my OB if nothing by then.
  • I had mine taken out Jan 7th and withdrawal spotting/bleeding that lasted 6 days.  It took 6.5 weeks from removal for AF, so CD1 was finally last week.  Hopefully things will go back to normal quickly, but after 6 years on BCP and another 4 with Mirena I'm thinking it may take a few cycles.

    Good luck!

  • I had my Mirena removed on February 28th of last year. Had my first post-Mirena period on March 11th. Since then, my cycles have ranged from 27 days to 32 days. I'm currently on CD28/12DPO on cycle 12. We got pregnant during my June cycle but had an early loss at 4wks3days.
  • everyone is different. My experience was my little jellybean. I had my mirena out  had AF within a week. I was pregnant right away. Sadly jellybean's heartbeat stopped at 12 weeks.
