Parenting after a Loss

AW: DH made up a baby sign!

He's been scoffing at me for not just teaching DD ASL signs, but he just informed me while giving DD her bath that he made up a sign for duck. Sometimes he really is swell.

Anyone else do baby signs? A coworker gave me a book and I'm really excited about it. The idea of being able to exchange more words with DD than only the ones she can say (when she begins talking) is too tempting to pass up.

  • Yes, I use sign language with my kids.  I recommend the Baby Signing Time videos.  They are mesmerizing for the kids! when I bring them over to my ILs, my niece and nephew will join my kids in watching the videos. Their eyeballs are fixated on the videos! DS can sign some words to us if he is not being understood.

  • We do baby signing and it has worked great for us and DD.  She is dropping off on her signing now that she is learning to talk (which makes me a little sad...) but she still does it every day.  We will definitely do it again if we have another baby.

  • We do asl. I have an app on my phone and there's a deaf class at the school I work at. Ther teachers and students are super helpful! I can't wait until G starts picking it up!

We do a couple simple signs with ds, thank goodness because he's taking his sweet time with talking! He uses them very creatively too! He hates diaper changes (signs "all done"), too many hugs from auntie (signs "all done"), if we take him out of the bath before he's ready (signs "more")...

    Adorable!

That's fabulous! If I knew ASL I'd be totally keen on doing it with DD, but I figured this might be easier on my slow baby brain.

  • Oh yeah!  The really good ones are "all done" and "more".  I was so excited when she first started doing it because we were actually communicating!!  GL with the signs - it's fun!
