So DD has been fussy her whole life, it seems.
For a few weeks, though, she had been lightening up. She was napping well and sleeping fine at night. Then all of a sudden within the past two weeks or so, she's been getting more and more fussy. She won't nap for too long, and she'll even cry sometimes at night.
I EBF, so to get ready for work, I've been pumping once more than I feed her, and family has been trying to get her used to bottles. Now she'll start fussing at the breast and sometimes won't eat and will go another hour or so until she eats. Or she'll get so tired and fall asleep while eating sooner than she used to or she'll have to be soothed to sleep and then she'll eat after a nap.
Another thing is that she all of a sudden HATES car rides. She used to fall asleep almost immediately after being laid in her car seat and now she won't stop wailing when she's in the car. And when we get to wherever we're going, forget it! She used to fall asleep in the car and stay sleeping for a while after we go to the destination. Now, she'll be up and then need to be carried and start her wailing. It's so embarrassing!
I read another post where a person said the vitamin drops might have something to do with it. Does anyone have any experience with this? If that's the case, I'm wondering if it might not be worth it to give her the vitamins and see if she calms down better that way.
Re: Please tell me it'll be over soon!
I don't think the vitamin drops would cause problems that last all day long.
Try eliminating dairy from your diet... Give it at least a 4 day trial as lactose likes to hang around in your system. I ended up having to eliminate dairy for while BFing for both DS and now DD. It's worth it, though.
I actually found some scientific studies that showed that better than 70% of babies diagnosed with "colic" significantly reduced their crying/fussing when moms eliminated dairy. It can't hurt to try...
Good luck!
I feel your pain. My DD has been super fussy since she turned 6 weeks old. She got better after 8 weeks and than it returned, just not as bad. We started her on gas drops and found that was the main problem but fussiness is normal in babies this age so we are used to it now. I tried cutting things out of my diet but nothing helped so we just think she has bad gas (i had it as a baby too)
We did stop the vitamins because no matter what time of day we gave them to her it was hurting her tummy too much, but you won't really know unless you do trial and error with it.
I've been pumping since she was born because she would scream and/or pass out when i would try to breastfeed so she was used to the bottle but we use this special nipple Medela makes that mimics the breast so they still have to work at it. She has never used a normal nipple.https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13375975&cp=2255957.2273443.2255981.2256160.18996006.18776806&green
Same thing happened with the car ride. She used to be fine and then recently she screams horribly in the car so i normally have to put her to sleep first in order to get her in the car. But it seems to be getting better.
All with time!
I am currently on a dairy free diet because DS was just diagnosed as having a milk protein allergy. Just know that if you are going to eliminate dairy, it is more than just milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. They put milk in like everything. So I'm basically just eating meat, fruit, and vegetables. If you want to eliminate lactose, that's different and in less foods, but a baby that is lactose intolerant is pretty rare. Being allergic to milk protein is more common.
I agree with Wiscomom67, it is worth it! Plus you eat a lot healthier!
Thanks for that! We've almost turned around a bunch of times, but DH is so determined! LOL I'm trying to be patient, hoping for that light at the end of that fourth trimester tunnel to come soon! (BTW: my DD has the same pj's yours does!)
I've been trying to eliminate dairy, but it's been so hard getting rid of cheese! I'll have to try harder because it may just be the ticket. I'm good with milk (drinking almond milk only), but cheese is it. And I'm not paying attention to what had milk in it already.
I just hope it ends soon because our nerves are fried! (On a good note: we were able to go to Target and Petsmart yesterday with her and she was only a little fussy and stopped crying. DH thinks it might be because her carseat was covered the whole time and she wasn't overstimulated.)
