Shoulder pain with carriers

I have a K'tan and a Baby Bjorne Active, and both of them bother my shoulders after about 5-10 minutes of wearing DS now. He's just about 20 lbs, so I can only guess how uncomfy this will get when he is older. I have read through a lot of the other carrier posts, and it looks like a Beco or Boba might be good options. Before I go spend any more money, I wanted to see whether you think either of these might solve some of the shoulder pain. TIA!

Re: Shoulder pain with carriers

  • A new carrier will help  for sure!  The k'tan isn't very supportive beyond the newborn phase and the bjorn is notoriously uncomfortable.  Honestly I would skip the beco at 8 months and 20 pounds - it's a great SSC but is smaller bodied since you are basically about to hit toddler size.  The boba is taller but there are other options as well...Action Baby Toddler, Kinderpack, Tula, Babyhawk Oh Snap...to name a few...and that's just if you want to stick with buckle carriers.  All of these will also allow you to do back carries if you want which most find far more comfortable with a heavier baby for long periods.  My siggy link has lots of babywearing info if you are interested in reading more.

  • I haven't used either of these carries.  I have an ergo sport and a moby wrap.  I mostly use the ergo.  My LO is about 19 pounds.

When they get to the 20 pound mark, a lot of people feel more comfortable wearing them on the back if they are out for longer outings.  I still wear her on the front and I still find it comfy with the ergo.  When we go for a hike, my hubby wears her on his back.

  • Thank you all for the suggestions! I think there is a store about 30 minutes from here that carries some of the brands mentioned. (The closest one just has K'Tan, Bjorn, and Ergo.) Hopefully I will be able to swing by there next week.
