Hey there, I have a question regarding Child support expenses. When paying child support to the other parent (we are in ND), should this include expenses such as car seats, booster seats, childcare equipment (swings, cribs, etc.)? The other parent in this situation is being paid the max child support payment every month on-time and is asking for more money to buy the next car seat on top of this payment. Also - are most medical expenses (L&D, well-care child visits etc) included in the child support payment or is that an additional payment to the primary care parent. Can someone shed some light on how this works. Also - if anyone has any resources regarding this topic and would be willing to share that would be so great.
Thank you so much.
Re: Child Support Expenses
The place to start is the CO. Many details should be outlined there. Check with your attorney.
No, I would not expect that ordinary daily equipment to be added to the child support. Those items should be purchased *with* the child support. Like clothes and food and rent and utilities, basic needs for the child (such as safety equipment) should be purchased by each parent for use during their time with the child.
Medical expenses are usually addressed in the custody agreement. Who is going to carry health insurance and how extra medical expenses are to be split should also have been spelled out. The split is frequently 50/50 or based on income percentages. Day care is usually handled the same way. Extra circulars like summer camps, sports or music are similar.
I don't know about labor and delivery costs.
