Cost of Meds???

Can any of the pros give me a good honest estimate on the meds needed for an embryo transfer.  I am looking around and its really starting to freak me out.  I think the meds are going to cost more than the transfer!!!!!!!!!!

Viville Dot paches by day 11 it says I will use 15 patches then 4 every other day until anywhere between the 6th and 10th week of pregnancy (If it works) at 8 weeks thats 175 patches????????????

Progesterone in oil 50mg/cc. 1 cc daily

Doxycyline  ( I dont know what that is or how much it does not say)

Yeah I am freaking out.  I wish our insurance seen this as a medical problem and should cover it but nope.

the clinic outlines their costs pretty good

Admin processing $800 storage $400 monitoring $431 embryology $1250 transfer $500 half time labs $96.00 = 3477.00

and they offer donor screening lab test (i have no idea if I should do this or not) any advice on this? $2000

They quote the meds being $560.00 I am confused because my pharmacy here wants $90 for 8 paches

I am overwelmed, confused and stressed out by all this.  On top of that I am scared it wont work so Its just a hard path for us right now

All the pre labs are done, trial transfer has been done, I am so close yet so far

Re: Cost of Meds???

  • I wasn't on patches for my DE cycle, so I can't help with dosage or prices there.

That said, you may want to try calling Freedom Fertility Pharmacy (google them for phone # and web site) for some price quotes.  I've found them to have competitive prices overall and I think they offer discounts for donor cycles (they call it "Donor Assist").

    I hope this helps!

  • I would talk to your RE and see if there are any diagnosis codes that would substansiate the use of Vivelle except code for IF.  Might be able to get insurance to cover it that way.  You apply the patches every other day.  My calendar starts with one patch every other day, working up to 4 every other day.  You might also check with OOP meds coordinator on IF board.  Patches expire.  We donated some there that was a month out from expiration because we knew we wouldn't be using it during that time frame.  Many ladies do the same, hating to meds go to waste when there are others in need.

  • The generic estrogen patches are huge compared to Viv.elle and I found that the adhesive wasn't great, but they are much cheaper (on the order of $200 less).  That's one thought. Another thought is oral estrogen.  I had to switch to oral when I developed an allergic reaction to the adhesive (both with the generic and Viv.elle).  The downside to oral is that you have to religiously take a pill every few hours. For me, it was three times daily.  The oral was cheap compared to the patches.

  • Diocycycline is a antibiotic that they use for the time of retrieval/transfer. We took it once a day for 5 days.
