Water breaking?

So FTM here, and I'm 37 weeks and 5 days now. Have been having a few spontaneous contractions and cramping for a week and a half or so, which the doc said is fine, because everything has been good the whole pregnancy and I can have her any time. I always assumed that because my mom went so late with both of us, that I probably can expect to as we'll. tonight I had some very intense and painful contractions,n some even somewhat close together, but nothing consistent still. I peed before bed and lay down, realizing that I was starting to "pee" in bed-I have had absolutely no issues like this yet, so I jumped up and a bunch of fluid of course came out, but I was able to slow the flow down, but I'm not sure it was because I squeezed my legs and bee lined it for the bathroom, or because it really was pee! Now I've lost the mucus plug, and some of the discharge is ever so slightly pinkish...but contractions have completely stopped...lying in bed on a towel, I can feel the liquid continue to come out! My husband is a truck driver, and can be home in about four hours, so I'm planning to call the on call line at my docs office. I'm nervous about being wrong though since the contractions have stopped, I live 90 minutes from the hospital, so a trip in only to get sent home is sort of a big deal. Any words of advice while I neurotically wait for the call back from the office and my hubby to arrive? (Sorry for the book)

Re: Water breaking?

  • go. if youre still leaking fluid, i highly doubt its pee. there was just a poster here the other day that thought it wasnt her water breaking because she could stop the flow but lo and behold it was her water.

i would just go and hope to talk to them along the way. 90 mins is no short drive, and if you start having contractions again and are unable to drive you're going to have to either wait for your husband or call the ambulance.

if it were me, i'd go

All of this!  Call your doctor and get to the hospital!

  • Definetly go to the hospital.  When my water broke I had no contractions at all.

This. My sister in law didnt have contractions after her water broke either. Good luck!

  • I never contracted on my own after my water broke. I had to start pitocin because 5 hours had passed and nothing happened. In fact, I maxed out the pitocin after 9 hours because I was not contracting.
    Go to the hospital.

  • This was me.  I called my doctor (at 2:30 in the morning) and she said to come in to the hospital.  I had my little girl later that day.  When I got to the hospital, I found out I was having contractions 2-3 minutes apart and hadn't even realized it.  Good luck!

  • Lurking here. But go to the hospital. I know you can loose your mucous plug and still wait a week to have your baby. But i would go. It sounds like the real deal. If its not, they will still monitor you for an hour. Good luck.

Ps. Maybe convince your hubby to rent a hotel room for the night, just in case they send you home. So your still right there if things happen
    to pick back up.
