My LO is going to be 10 months next week. Right now, she eats oatmeal with puree for breakfast, turkey or chicken (jarred) with puree (fruit and veggie) for lunch and yogurt as an afternoon snack/dinner. I tried to get her to eat mashed banana, and she was not pleased. She does not like puffs, and will pick them up and not put them in her mouth. when I put them in her mouth, she makes sour faces. She has recently begun eating textured purees, but I want her to being the eating process. How do I introduce this to her, without fear of her choking.
Side note: she can only try 1 new food a week, due to a development of hives a few months ago that we were unable to find the cause of.
Re: how do I get LO to try solids
We are doing a lot of soups with my LO and he loves them. Plus because they are "soft foods" I don't have to worry much about him choking on them.
I also will look for any opportunity to feed mashed table food to him. For example, we had a potato chicken stew last week and I just mashed the potatoes and fed them to him with the finely shredded chicken and stew juice. What you could do for example with something like that is introduce the potatoes by themselves at first, then mix with chicken since she's already had chicken before... maybe before all of this try doing the broth first by itself for a week and see how that goes. And then she can eat a full meal.
They also say to try a food at least 10 times before giving up on it. My LO hated both peaches and yogurt and I bought him some peach yogurt melt things and started giving him one every day. He would make a sour face every time but after about a week, he started having more than one at a time and now he finally likes them and is eating fruit yogurt now. Just keep trying and eventually she will embrace the things you feed her (most likely).

DD1 took to solids at four months. DD2 I had to wait until seven months. She has only her two bottom teeth right now. But she eats Cheerios, bread, small pieces of deli turkey, cheese, fries (I slice the potato and bake them in the oven), banana ... The banana we just broke in half and gave to her and she managed it pretty well. Also, pancakes, puffs, pouches with all kinds of fruits a veggies mixed together. Just keep trying. Eventually they get the hang of it.
We did really small pieces of scrambled eggs, pancakes, homemade bread, cooked carrotts this past weekend. We just put it on her tray, and she would pick up the small pieces in her mouth eat it. My daughter has six teeth so I know that she can chew it and eat the small pieces of food.
