I just wanted to share with other parents a great cure for diaper rash! My poor baby girl had been suffering for 2 weeks, despite all the creams and air baths, and all other recommended remodies that I read about. We had taken her to the Dr. and we did everything they told us to do. Finally a nurse (after we called the Dr. a THIRD time) told us to give her a warm bath with baking soda in the water two or three times a day. I thought "nah... this is too simple, that wont work" but my husband said it was worth a shot. So he went to the store, we gave her a bath, and it immediatley looked better!! I couldn't believe it. We had been fighting this rash with Lotrimin, Desitin, Triple Paste, you name it. We tried EVERYTHING. And it all came down to three baths a day with baking soda. We started last Wednesday and today... her booty is perfect again with no signs of any rash. So I just wanted to share that with everyone in case you had problems with a super rash that just wouldn't quit.

a different old way of curing diaper rash is to put corn starch on bottom. Just powder it up like you would with baby powder!
We saw a difference pretty quickly.
SCANDAL!
Yup... we tried all that too. Every cream on the market, warm soapy wash cloths, warm wash cloths with no soap, aquafer (sp?), Lotrimin, Triple Paste, Triple Paste anti-fungal, lots of air baths... seriously EVERYTHING. And it finally came down to the baths with Baking Soda that made a real difference (and fast too). One of the remedies would start to work for a day or two... then the rash would come back with a vengeance. So keep this idea in your back pocket in case your sweet baby gets the impossible diaper rash that just wont quit.
I may never know what exactly sparked this rash... but I am SO glad it is gone and baby girl is comfortable again.
Ooo - thanks for the tip! DD has a very sensitive tush. So far we have had great luck with aquaphor + mint Maalox, but they won't use it at day care because we mix it at home (not in its original container, etc). Anyway, I am always looking for new remedies especially ones that you can do at home and have an affect when she is away from us.
So far, for day care we have tried: triple paste, lotrimin, desitin, A+D, Aquaphor, Butt paste, petroleum jelly, steroid cream (I had a heart attack when the NP recommended this one... it says specifically that it is contraindicated for diaper rash... I used it once then threw it away). Pretty much, if it exists at CVS we have sent it to day care to give it a whirl. Nothing worked.
The Aquaphor+mint Maalox is magical though and it sounds like the baking soda bath would be along the same principle so I thought you might like another option in case you need another solution. Glad your LO is doing better!
