Spitting up while sleeping?

Hi all,

DS is 2 weeks today. There has been 2 times where after a nightime feed he spits up in his sleep. He's next to me in his bassinet so I can get to him but then I have trouble going back to sleep fearing he will do it again, I won't hear and he'll choke! He doesn't cry or appear to be in pain. In fact he's still sleepy. I BF and burp in between breasts and after, though I dont always get a burp out of him. Any advice?

Re: Spitting up while sleeping?

  • Only two times?! ; DS spits up all the time in his sleep...even after burping and keeping upright for a while after feeding. I'd say don't stress about it! As long as baby is on back, they have their head turned to one side anyway.

DD spit up a ton, and she turned out just fine. Just annoying because you have to wash the sheets and their clothes all the time.

  • That is such a relief! Thanks for responding. FTM and a worry wart- so I wasn't sure if that was normal newborn behavior!

  • I sometimes have to change DS after feeding him because he poops during feeding. He of course he spits up and it comes right out the side of his mouth with ease. Trust me though I bet those mommy ears will hear if there is some sort of problem lol!

  • My DD is just now 4 months and it doesn't matter if she is asleep or awake she is spitting up.  I might have to ask the doctor about it tho.  I was bf but my supply disappeared out of the blue about 2 months ago so we have been giving her formula.  Which is something i did not what to do.  Work i think is part of that problem. Anyways she is growing well and gaining weight like she is supposed to.  I would just keep an eye on it to be on the safe side.

  • DD does this every night.  She always wakes up with dried milk on her face.  I keep her elevated after she eats for a good while but it doesn't seem to matter.
