Daycare gifts

Any ideas on what I can get the daycare staff for Christmas? Originally, I was only going to get something for the owner and director since I know them both (I graduated from HS and LVC with the director and the owner is her mother). When I picked up Andrew yesterday, the owner said she found his Christmas present and can't wait to give it to him. I'm not sure if I should get them something for the center or if I should try to find something a bit more personal for them. It's a small center, so I feel bad if I don't get the others anything, even though I don't really know them. There's only 3 of them, so it's not a huge deal, but DH doesn't think we should feel obligated to get them all something. Any thoughts, ideas?!

Re: Daycare gifts

  • I was the director of a daycare a year or so ago.... at Christmas time some parents gave small gifts while others did not.  It was nothing that was expected, appreciated yes, expected no.

I would go for something small and personal for the owner and director (since you wanted to).  If you want to give to everyone, cookies, chocolate, even ordering a pizza for them to share at lunch time would be nice.

Again do not feel obligated to get them anything, but again I am sure they would appreciate it!

    Good luck

  • I feel the same way.  Last year, I only had one teacher to buy for, but this year, I feel like I need to get something for 5 people that have been involved with my daughter all year.  Last year, I did a gift certificate to Target for her main teacher.  I really don't know what I'll do this year yet...maybe smaller gift certificates for something.  And I'll probably buy a book for the school, too.  I'll be watching this thread since I need ideas, too!

  • I am having the same problem.  In Tori's room, there are 4 main people there every day, but then there's 2-3 subs in from time to time, and I don't want to leave anyone out, but that's alot of people! (and I don't even know all their names, to get individual gifts).  Someone suggested to me to get them lunch one day, so I think that's what I'll do.  There's a Pizza Hut right down the road, so I think I'll get those new pasta things, they may like that more than pizza.  But I'm interested in seeing others ideas too!

  • I plan to make cookies for everyone who helps in his room and give $10 Applebee's cards to the two main teachers.
  • That is tough and I think I would do small gifts for the teachers. I would probably end up making oreo truffles or cookies putting them in a nice white box and tying with a Christmas Ribbon since there is more than 2. In your case I might buy a yankee candle or something special for the owner and director. My sister is a 2nd grade teacher and some of her kids last year purchased her boxes of chocolate, some made homemade cookies or fudge, some gave her really nice stuff like a little Longaberger basket. She doesn?t expect anything from her students and realizes that the parents? all have varying levels of disposable income.

I also like the lunch idea.

  • As a teacher, I always appreciate the more personal gifts, although I certainly don't expect anything and am grateful to the kids and parents for their thoughtfulness. In the past, I've gotten lots of gift cards, one parent delivered me a home-made dinner that I was able to take home for DH and I (lasagna, salad, bread, dessert), I've had cookies, candy, candles, Bath and Body things, etc. Classroom items are nice, such as books, although it is nice to get something different since those materials are what we're using day in and day out.
