Trying to Get Pregnant

Provera

I had an appointment in January with my dr concerning ovulation and irregular periods. I was advised to make an appointment for the 21st day of my next cycle. Since that cycle has not started I am currently on day 70 of this cycle I called the dr to see how long he would like me to wait it out. His nurse called me back and left a VM that she called in a prescription of Provera for me.

I know nothing about Provera. I wanted to see if you ladies had any pros/cons you could share with me. Also, is it normal for a dr to prescribe this without an office visit prior?

Re: Provera

  • It is just a homone medication that essentially jump starts your cycle. You take it for about ten days and when your stop, your period should follow within a few days. It is normal for a doctor to prescribe it. Hope this helps.

    No problem! GL!
  • My RE prescribed me Provera after a long struggle with amenorrhea and irregular/anovulatory cycles after getting off my BCP's. After my first 10 day cycle of Provera, I ovulated and got KU right away without even "trying." I actually felt amazing while on the drug. It evened out my hormonal imbalance which solved a lot of problems I had been having such as complete loss of sex drive and fatigue. I know that some women have opposite reactions to it however, like horrible cramps and irritability... Basically PMS symptoms magnified. I can't say enough good things about it though. It was a miracle drug for me and I now have the most amazing little 10 month old that is my everything. DH and I are already TTC 2, but it's looking like I'll probably need some more Provera to help things along again this time too!
