Success after IF

If you have had your AMH tested twice...

So I got my AMH drawn again today (along with FSH, etc.) and I'm nervous about the results.  My last draw was in 2011.  So it got me to wondering...

If you have had your AMH drawn two (or more) times, what were the results each time?  And how much time elapsed between the draws?

I know they say it is only supposed to go down, but I wanted to take an informal poll.

IF DX: DOR & Fragile X pre-mutation carrier

Re: If you have had your AMH tested twice...

  • Well, you probably remember because I think I've told you before but ...

I had mine drawn in August of 2011 and it was .7.  Had it retested in January of 2013 (so about a year and a half time lapse) and it was .68.

My FSH was 7. something in 2011 and was 6. something last month (can't remember off the top of my head).

When we were doing treatments in 2010 they never even tested my AMH (I don't think that was a part of the standard cd3 testing yet at least around me).

Thanks for posting! Yes, I remembered yours had stayed about the same. I now I am wishful thinking, but I am hoping that somehow mine comes back better than it did last time. I know this completely isn't realistic, but I can't help but hope. Plus, I took one of those fertility tests (the ones that come free in the box of pregnancy tests) this morning that is supposed to test if you FSH was elevated and it showed mine was not. Actually, it was kind of an ambiguous result, though. It said if you had no line or a line ligther than the test line, your FSH was probably normal. If the line was as dark as the test line or darker, your FSH was probably high. Well, my line was lighter than the test line, but barely. Of course, ya know, I am sure anything that comes free in a box of pregnancy test is probably highly reliable.

  • LoL ... I peed on one of these when we first started trying:  https://www.firstresponse.com/fertilityTest.asp.  Mine showed a beautiful second line and I remember thinking, "Awesome!  We will have no problem getting pregnant!"  Bahahha.  I could have put that $15 towards our IUI or something!  ;)

Well, hopefully your results won't be any worse than they were before.  I have read a few stories here and there about people who had their levels go up!  I guess ya never know!

  • When I was test, my FSH was fine but my AMH was 0.4!!  I think my LOR is probably because of years of heavy exposure to 2nd hand smoke - only got away from it during school hours growing up.  Anyway, we didn't have a lot of hope but went straight into IVF.  We had 2 stim cycles and 1 frozen - and I am now in my 2nd trimester after the FET.

I remember, after recovering from the shock of the test results, asking my doctor if it was worthwhile to retest for AMH.  He said no, that the numbers may change but they are still only an indication.  Having gone through the trauma, insecurity, and difficulty of infertility and IVF, my best advice to you is not to get too hung up on the numbers.  As much as the medical profession knows, they still don't know everything.  While there's no guarantee, there is always hope.

Yup. That is what I peed on.  Mine was free in a box of pregnancy tests, though.  Actually, I had it left over from when I was TTC last time and found it awhile back in the cabinet. I managed to take all the pregnancy tests, but that was still hanging out and I figured, "Why not?"

I am a POAS-aholic, though.  I must have been a dog in a prior lifetime.

Amen!  And the fact that it is sorda a 'new' test sometimes makes me leery.  I mean, just 2.5 years ago they weren't even testing AMH (at least for me) ... now all of a sudden it's this deal breaker?  I don't doubt that there is some validity to it and I'm not trying to brush it off by any means, but I definitely agree that other factors come into play.  After all, it is just one test.  None the less, it sure is frustrating!

Aren't you ready to put all of this bullsh!t behind you?  I know I am.  I long for the day my family is complete and I can move on with my life!

Yes, yes, yes!  I thought after I had one LO, it would quit bothering me and stressing me.  Wrong.  No doubt, it is better than it used to be because I know I can defy the odds.  But I still worry.

I am not so sure about AMH either.  And FSH fluctuates so much.  I sometimes think maybe AFC is the best predictor, but who even knows about that either since all you really need is one.
