Trying to Get Pregnant

32,TTC with PCOS, stressed already

Hi, Newbie here. Trying to find the right group in the community. HD & I have been TTC since Nov '12. I know that's not a very long time, but I have not had a positive ovulation test since early Dec. I'm on day 15 of my 3rd cycle since that date, still nothing for this cycle. I'm worried that my stress about this is just making things worse. I'm starting to worry that I'm depressed, I can't look at a baby with out breaking down. Everyone I know seems to be getting pregnant & they're not even trying. Planning on talking to my Dr in April at my next visit about this & possibly starting meds. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with the stress of it all?

Re: 32,TTC with PCOS, stressed already

  • I'm also 32 with PCOS!  I really find a lot of support on this board that helps take away some of the stress.  DH is a great support and I have a couple of friends IRL that know our whole story.  Having someone to talk to really helps. The other thing is just reminding myself that TTC is a process and I'm happy in my life NOW.

I have moments where I'm stressed, but I've never gotten to the point that looking at a baby made me break down.  If you're this upset after a few months, you may want to speak to a therapist.  Stress doesn't do you any good, and 3 months of trying is a bit too soon to be thinking about testing and meds.

Are you temping?  What type of ovulation tests are you doing?  For me, charting helped me learn what my body was doing (or not doing) and by being more informed, I feel more in control of the process.

  • I know how hard it is with PCOS. I skipped two cycles last year, and was really excited I was pregnant each time AF didn't show. Its frustrating, and honestly was actually part of why we didn't actively start trying earlier; DH and i are afraid of the possible elephant in the room [that i may not be able to get pregnant]. But, just remember there are tons of women with PCOS who get pregnant I'm proof of itmy mom has it as well.

I agree that seeing someone, or at least confiding in a good friend, sounds like it would be best.

  • Thanks. I'm actually in my 5th cycle since coming off BCP. Just feeling stressed that I've only had 1 positive LH Ovulation test in that time. I've been charting my cycle & tests, but not temping. I've had a hard time getting a "normal" temp, I run below normal & my temp seems to swing .5-1 degree day-to-day. I wasn't sure if I should be temping, I've read a lot that seems to indicate that LH test strips can be more helpful. I'll try it though. Thanks ladies!

  • Check out the Newbie information at the top of this board or the wonderful TTGP Blog (https://tbttgp.wordpress.com/)

    Both have helped me tons!

Combining daily BBT and OPKs (LH test strips) will give you a good idea of when you ovulate.  Definitely try out https://www.fertilityfriend.com to help you track.  It can take a while for your body to regulate after birth control, sometimes as long as 6-12 months.  That being said, hopefully it doesn't take that long for you. I don't think it's a bad idea to consult your doctor to see help see if you are ovulating or if there's anything he recommend.

I understand your feelings as I had one crying incident myself.  When to my cousin's baby shower and there were 3 pregnant ladies, 2 toddlers, and a newborn.  When I first saw the newborn, my eyes just filled up. I talked to my best friend later and I've been much better ever since.  You should talk to someone and share your frustrations and feelings; a best friend, a relative, even a professional to help you through.

    Good Luck!

    My Ovulation Chart
  • I was just on fertilityfriend.com. It looks pretty comprehensive. It'll be a good tool to have when I see my Dr.

There are good days & not so good days. Talking to friends helps, but I have so few that have "tried" to get pregnant, so they're great listeners but not so much with the advice.

    Thank you!

  • If you haven't already done so you should talk to your doctor about seeing a Reproductive Endocrinologist. You may or may not be ovulating. A positive OPK does not necessarily mean you will ovulate plus OPKs aren't reliable for women with PCOS (it even says so on the box!). Even healthy couples only have a 20% chance of getting pregnant each month. And even though PCOS is not a death sentence with regards to TTC, it doesn't make anything easier. And my RE has told me that although they advise women to try for 1 yr before seeking help, if you KNOW you have PCOS there's absolutely no need to wait an entire year b/c you KNOW something is wrong, the bonus is that you at least know what it is.

  • Thanks! I saw a RE when I was diagnosed. I just wasn't able to continue those visits & was nowhere near ready to TTC at that point. I must have missed that fine print on the box of tests. I've been using them at the suggestion of my OBGYN. But I was really starting to wonder how accurate they were. I've started using them daily because I figured there was a good chance I would O earlier or later in the cycle than my calendar tells me I should. Going to start temping next cycle.

My DH travels weekly so that kind of adds to the stress. If he's gone when I O, who knows when the next opportunity will be. I can't see a reason why to wait to at least start talking about it.

Thanks for helping me not feel like a crazy lady! BTW your avatar is one of my favorite Will Ferrell pics EVER!

Do you even know why OPKs "don't work" for women with PCOS? Because for women with PCOS LH levels are often elevated and the tests are constantly positive. If you have PCOS but don't have that going on, they will work just as well as they will for a woman without PCOS.

WOW! That's really great info to have! I'm getting all negatives. I'll definitely review this with my OBGYN. You guys have so much info here, I have tons to learn! Thanks!
