Ok ladies - I need some help on some resources. I was in my child's daycare the other day and two of the babies were in the swings, sleeping soundly...not a problem EXCEPT their faces were fairly covered up by light blankets. I do not think this is safe and do not want any children to get hurt or the daycare to end up closed because the director thinks that this is an OK practice. However, she can be quite defensive because "She has had lots of training in this area". I would look into another daycare but there are none available, this is the only daycare in town (crazy i know). So does anyone know of or have any reputable sources of this type of information that I can take into the daycare to back up this being a problem!

Re: Daycare: Sleeping in swing/face covered??
I think this happening at home is different then it happening at a daycare. like you said, you are keeping an eye on him at all times. And like a PP said, the center I worked at didnt even use blankets, only sleepsacks.
I should specify in a daycare setting. It is part of the state regulations for daycares...
Yeah, I was thinking about this. Its totally different if they have more than one or two to be watching all the time.
Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

What state are you in? Your states dept a Family and Protective Services should have minimum standards posted on their website and it should mention there to infant sleeping policies this would trump any policy your daycare has
I just looked on South Dakota's website, and there regulations are VERY brief... Here are a couple things you can use...
this is a handout that is linked from the SD family services page regarding safe sleeping and SIDS
https://www.healthychildcare.org/PDF/SIDSparentsafesleep.pdf
here is the Texas minimum standards for child care
https://www.dfps.state.tx.us/documents/Child_Care/Child_Care_Standards_and_Regulations/746_Centers.pdf
Page 91 talks about sleeping without blankets, in a crib, etc...
page 94 talks about how the head cannot be covered at ANY time (in case they try to tell you, that they cant control if the child falls asleep during swing time)
Both of these topics are "High" in the inspection list (meaning in they got inspected and they saw this happening it would be a BIG hit against them and their licensing.
This form has licensing contact information for you area. If the director does not help, i would call the licensing people for you area and see what they say

Here is another article from Zero to Three (they are are very well known research group in the child development field)

I hope this helps! - If you need more info please PM and let me know. I have a Master's in child devlopment - and can really get down to the nitty gritty research to give you if you need. But hopefully this will be enough to let her know you know what you are talking about.
