NTTGTR: hand lotion

I work at a restaurant and wash my hands so many times each day at work. This winter has been particularly bad on my hands and they hurt they're so dry. My lotion isn't cutting it. Any suggestions?

  • I'm a huge fan of the Mary Kay Satin Hands set. It makes my hands feel sooo good! They say it's supposed to last for 24 hours.

  • This would have to be done after work, but my grandpa always put bag balm on his hands, and then wore rubber gloves. His hands were dry and cracked a lot.

Another option I like is Satin Hands (Mary Kay), the night cream is really moisturizing.

I use a generic Eucerin at my desk.

     eta: Mary Kay Jinx :)

I'm a bartender, so I hear where you are coming from OP. Aveeno is a great brand, and actually Suave Advanced Therapy, its cheap but effective. We keep it behind the bar, so a lot of our servers don't know it exists. Check with your management team if they have lotion in the office, or bartenders. There may be hidden lotion to help you out during long shifts

Occasionally someone will bring some in but it never lasts long. I had some great stuff... An old bath and body works lotion but it ran out and they don't sell it anymore.

    Thanks everyone for the responses.

Hemp lotion is supposed to work really well. It doesn't for me, but some people swear by it. It's sold around here at beauty supply stores like Sally's
this is was a would suggest as well. Good luck, I hate dry skin.

  • I second Lush Dream Cream or Coco Lotion. I really love and swear by plain old Palmer's Cocoa Butter. I have two by my bed right now. I use it on my feet and just a bit on my hands.

  • I love Bath & Body Works "True Blue Spa Hand Cream". DD has a compromised immune system so we are ALWAYS washing our hands and using hand sanitizer and this works great. (They sell the overnight gloves to wear with it, too!)

ETA I think they also sell overnight gloves that actually have the moisturizers already in them! But I haven't tried them yet.

Don't mind the lurker....I have gotten mild eczema before and when my hands are crazy dry my dermatologist always recomended this...imageI use it every morning, even when I'm not dealing w/ eczema.

I might try that or a similar one. I have a some type of eczema on my feet, I don't remember what it's called though. But it shows up on my hands too if I'm really stressed so dry hands do not help at all and I think this might be the way to go.

  • I feel your pain!  DH and I both have super dry skin.  He swears by Aveeno as his daily lotion, but uses CeraVe when his eczema is acting up.  During the winter, my hands are so dry that they crack and bleed (fun), so I use Vaseline Intensive Rescue.  My mom gave me some Aveda Hand Relief for Christmas and I love it, but I can't bring myself to spend the extra $15 when the Vaseline works.

  • I like to grease it up with Aquaphor or generic equivalent. Leaving Vaseline on overnight will also do the trick.

  • Have you tried the Jergens (in the small squeezy bottle) for extra dry skin?  It's super awesome and it has no smell.  I love it.  I get really really bad dry skin around my knuckles from the weather and washing my hands all the time, and it totally makes a huge difference for me.

  • Definitely jarred cream with no scent. I like Eucerin and Neutrogena best. They are less greasy feeling but still very moisturizing.
