December 2011 Moms

My vent - what's yours?

Alex is STTN for the most part now, after we did CIO for the third time a few weeks ago. Yesterday he had a really crappy nap and last night he woke up twice, ugh. Both times he cried for 20 minutes or so and I am so tired today.

We also got denied for private health insurance twice now and are really starting to get very stressed about it. DH became self employed in the beginning of December and we will be able to keep our coverage through his former employer until August, but after that we are not quite sure what to do now. We are currently waiting for the letters with the reason for the denial and will then come up with a plan. SO stressful!

What's your vent today?

  • That's one of my vents, too!  After I quit my job, I was denied private health insurance for a ridiculously minor pre-existing condition.  I've been paying a huge amount for COBRA coverage, but it will end in November.  If you guys are doing COBRA, have you looked into continuation coverage?  I don't know too much about it, but I do know that I'll be able to get that after my coverage ends in November.  Also, the Obamacare ban on denying coverage for pre-existing conditions starts in January (I think?), so you might be able to apply again then and get accepted.

The continuation right now is not COBRA, because the company is too small. We were told that we can't continue after August, no matter how much we'd be willing to pay. And yes, we are definitely going to apply again in January, but we need to find something for the gap between August and then :-(

  • I hate taking work calls on my days off. I had to take one today so scheduled at a time I knew I could DS down for a nap. Well, didn't get a call until over an hour after we'd scheduled for. Ugh... I'd planned our whole morning around that darn nap!!!

Yes, thank you! They have a $3 million life time max, so this would be our very last resort. We are thinking about moving to Germany though.

  • Sorry that you are going through those issues with medical insurance- it can be very scary.  DH switched jobs two years ago and like 3 days after he left his job and before he had started the new one he ended up in the hospital with a massive DVT which required a series of very expensive surgeries and the hospital staff kept coming into the room and asking us how we were going to pay the likely 100k+ bill. I spent an entire day on the phone trying to get it sorted out and get the insurance company and hospital to realize that he had Cobra coverage.  I really hope that you get a good resolution and soon...
