Baby measuring big at u/s?

Back story: I charted while TTC so I know I either O'd on Day 11 or Day 14 (we had sex day 10 and 14). According to my chart, my temp bumps up on both day 11 and day 15 but I usually O on day 15 like clock-work. And FF said my O date was day 15.

At my 8w0d u/s, baby measured 8w4d. Not enough of a difference to change my due date, but I'm wondering if I did O early. Or if the baby is just measuring big. If you had an u/s where LO measured big, did your OB indicate what this means, if anything? I assume my MW would just say I O'd early, but I don't think that is the case.  Just curious...thanks!

  • Both DS and this one are IVF/FET so there is no question about dates.  With DS he progressively measured further and further ahead until he was almost 2 weeks ahead by 3rd tri.  He was just a big kid....6.7lbs at 34w6days.

This time I've had measurement dead on, a day or so behind and 4 days ahead.  Right now you figure what they are measuring is so small that a tiny slight of hand with the measuring tool could probably mean a day or 2.

    2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
    TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
    Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14

  • I wasn't charting, but I did use OPKs. I ovulated at day 19. At my last u/s I was given a due date that would mean we conceived before I ovulated and before we even had sex!. I just assumed my baby is just growing fast, though. No worries!

  • I wasn't charting or anything but at my nt scan I measured 3 days ahead. My DD always measured a week ahead when I was preggers with her. My edd never was changed.

Wow you made a baby without having sex :-D

I'm definitely not worried about the baby as everything looked great. I'm just wondering if there is a correlation between having a big baby full term if the u/s is measuring ahead. I realize it is very early though. DD was a small baby (and she still ripped me apart) so I'm worried about me and the possible damage resulting from birthing a big baby.

  • I think it's important to remember that even though you know the exact date of ovulation, you don't know the exact date of implantation.  It could have been anywhere from 6-12 days post ovulation. The average is 9, so it's possible you implanted early and baby got a jump start on its major growing.
  • I wasn't charting, and all my OPKS said negative, but my last 2 cycles were 28 days before the one I got pregnant so I was thinking that I would ovulate in the middle some where. We did it every other day from day 10 to day 16 or 18. :) And it worked.

Our babies are measuring 4-5 days earlier than my measurement, but doc says plus or minus 6 days is fine and not enough to change the dates. so even though i'm 10 weeks 3 days pregnant, babies are like almost 10 weeks.

     Everything should be fine though!

Actually I think I do know when implantation was this time! I had spotting 7 DPO so I'm guessing that was implantation. Had a BFP 2 days later.

  • At my first u/s at 6 weeks, I was measuring 2 days behind my LMP and 3 days behind based on ovulation. My dr said as long as it wasn't a week she wasn't concerned. When I went last week, I was 2 days ahead of LMP, again she said only way she'd change a due date is if I consistenly measured at least a week ahead.

Now one of my good friends just had her baby last week, she was 4 weeks early. She was consistenly measuring 3-4 weeks ahead the last month and a half, however at the beginning of her pregnancy she was always measuring a day or 2 behind. The baby although 4 weeks early was almost 7 pounds.

  • I know for a fact when we conceived...it was the only day during that time frame that we dtd. So based on my ovulation and when I conceived I should be due 9/12, but at the u/s I was measuring at 9/9 so they changed my due date.

  • My Doctor said I probably implanted early which can make your dates shift to a little earlier (my EDD moved up 3-4 days) this seems correct since I got a clear BFP at 7 DPO.

  • Molly measured about a week big every time we had an u/s.  I think that some babies are just big.  :)
