Trying to Get Pregnant

Not ovulating?

Hi ladies!  I'm feeling the frustration this morning and would love a little insight. Basically my primary concern is that I don't think I ovulate. Here's why:

I've been off BC since June 2012, between June and Dec only had one normal AF in Aug. While I wasn't temping because we weren't actively TTC (but no barriers against it) I did note long cycles.  In Dec obgyn put me on Provera, which worked and I've been temping ever since the end of AF. I also did some temping last cycle to try and pin point O (on Kindara) but that chart looks just like this Month's FF chart - ugly.  I am a newbie temper, but I take it at 6:00am each morning before moving.

For the couple of months I did OPKs I would get smiley faces about 4-5 days in a row.  I've also been checking CM this cycle and right now feel like watery semi-EW CM is my only sign of hope for my cycle.

Anyone experience something similar?  A what point should I get back with my doctor to try and get more insight to whether or not I ovulate?  (I dont even know how you test for that.). The last time I saw my obgyn she said I could see and RE at any time due to irregular cycles, but I see everyone here recommending a year wait.

Thanks for reading/listening DH's thoughts on these types of things can pretty much be summed up with "stop worrying" :)

Re: Not ovulating?

  • I went to see my RE because I wanted to be proactive about figuring out what was going on with my body and my irregular cycles. Even though you may not be actively TTC, there is no harm in trying to get your issues squared away before that time comes. For me, I ovulated for the first time after a round of Provera and got KU right away without even "trying" really. I would just go... why drag it out for a year? That's just me though. I am so glad I did!

    No. No. No.

REs are needed for real IF issues, not for women who are impatient.

Irregular cycles can be an IF issue however there are plenty of women with longer cycles who get pregnant without medical help.

If everyone went to an RE because they didn't want to wait to get pregnant then how would people who need IF treatment be able to get help?

The rule of thumb is try for a year if you're under 35. Try for six months if you're over 35. After that see an RE.

However, if your cycle goes over 60 days without AF, then by all means get provera. But don't waste medical resources because you're impatient. IF is expensive and emotionally draining. Why would you want to bring that on yourself when you could give your body a chance to reset after BC or provera?
