Thank you to everyone who replied to my post about MOTN feeds last week. The last few nights I have fed LO with the lights dim, and did not unswaddle her or change her diaper (when wet only), as suggested, and it's made the world of difference! She fell back to sleep as she finished eating, and it was so much quicker that I could go back to sleep more easily (and without getting so hungry that I needed a snack.)
My LO is probably younger than most of yours, since she was born late on 1/3, but are any of you having success with the laid back or side lying positions yet? I have exclusively been nursing sitting up in the cross cradle position using My Brest Friend. It works great most of the time, but for the MOTN it would be nice not to have to strap on the pillow and to be resting more. I practiced both side lying and laid back position with her during the day today, and it sort of worked, but it was hard to get her head supported enough. She latched on, but it felt like she was having to tug more to get the milk, so it was less comfortable. Also, we had to relatch several times, because she did not stay in place. Does this take a lot of practice before it works, or could she still be too young? I tried watching some you tube videos, but they did not help! TIA
Re: Do you vary your nursing position?
At first it was a little difficult, but I started by laying her on the bed, leaning over her, and sort of dangling my boob over her mouth. Once I got her latched on well, I slowly laid next to her, turning her head to the side as I laid down.
Good luck!
It's a little harder to latch him on here. I find he has to do most of the latching with my guidance or support. I line him up, use the scissors hold to shape the nipple, and he does the rest.
This is how we practiced as well.
I am larger on top, 34F pre pregnancy, so it wasn't as hard for me to get her latched as it was trying to support her and still lay comfortably. I hold her in the crook of my arm and latch her on, then roll more towards my back. Oddly, it works way better on one side than the other.
Just keep practicing and trying new positions! You'll get it!
