Trying to Get Pregnant

Does anyone only temp?

Out of all my pregnancies I've only ever had 1 positive OPK. I test 2-3 times a day. All of the negatives are just stressing me out so I'm ready to be done with them. DH and I have sex regularly so I wasn't using them to time sex. I'm thinking about just temping and charting cm. Does anyone else do this?

Re: Does anyone only temp?

  • I do use them, but mainly to give me a head's up to time sex since we aren't as regular about it. If it's stressing you out, temping will confirm O, so maybe you should try one without it and see how it goes?

  • I have only ever gotten a positive opk with clearblue digital which I only used when trying for ds, not this time around, they are so expensive! Last month I did not use opk's and just temped......I am now on cd 7 Sad I just got some wondfo's in the mail that I will start using this week. I am really hoping to catch my surge this time around! Also, I didn't have too much cm, so it was hard to pinpoint o based on that and my temps.

  • I do.

Only charting cm/cp and temping. Haven't ever actually tried OPKs only because I haven't been bothered to get any lol. SO and I pretty much have sex ED or EOD anyways, so I don't really see OPKs helping us too much. We just make sure once there's fertile cm we HIO every day.

  • I've never used an OPK. Temp and CM only. I am thinking about adding them in next cycle to help pinpoint O but I can see how it would be stressful to never get a positive.

Yep clear blue digital is where I got my positive! I'm using those and Wondfos this cycle. FF said I should O between CD15 and CD17. I'm on CD16 today and no positives, not even close.

  • OPKs frustrate me, too!  This was the first cycle I've gotten + OPKs.  I'm going to try it one more cycle ... if I get +'s, I'll keep using them.  If no +'s, I'm going to just straight charting temps and looking at my bodily fluids! haha.

Good luck! You are testing at different times of the day, right?

I thought someone said LH surge can last just 12 hr, do you think it's possible that you just miss the peak if it happened at like 8 pm? Have you seen a close one like one that is pretty dark but not quite darker than control line?

  • If you are already having sex regularly and aren't using OPKs to time sex, then charting temps and cm would likely be enough for FF to confirm ovulation.

  • I only temp and check cm. When TTC we have sex EOD from when period ends until a few days before predicted O (I have many charts to base this off of!) and then shoot for ED through 0+1.

I might have a short surge. Last month when I got my positive I took another test a couple hours later and it was negative. I also tested less than 24 hours before I got the positive and that was negative too. The test lines on my Wondfos vary in color a little but they don't get very dark. Like CD12 at 10am was kind of dark then at 2pm it was light again. And today at 10am it was dark then at 2pm very light. Ahh!

This. I use OPKs because we don't have sex regularly due to my work schedule.

OP, you may consider using an OPK around 10:00PM or before you go to bed. You could also try using FMU instead of SMU. I know most instructions say SMU, but give FMU a try. If you only surge for 12 hours or so and are getting darker OPKs at 10:00AM, it's possible your surge is early in the morning or late at night.

  • My BFF just temped, no OPK's.  She had a pretty regular cycle, and based on her ovulation pains, EWCM (etc) she could tell she ovulated mid cycle or so.  So she just tried to have more sex around that time frame.  But she never did OPK's.  Took her 6 months to get pregnant, fyi :)
  • I only temp.  I have no desire to use opk's so I temp and we just have regular sex.

  • As for charting cm... I haven't had any EWCM the past two cycles. Just watery/cloudy looking. It stretches for like a second then breaks. Could that mean I'm not ovulating and that's why I'm not getting positive OPKs?

CM is not an accurate predictor of O on its own, so I doubt you are not ovulating.

And FYI, watery CM is fertile CM as well.
